2 days has been fine but day 3 quite a lot of the bugs seem dead. There were lots of little prawn like creatures but they're all gone now and I'm not sure why, its like overnight there was an extinction event. Some advice for this/the next one and how to create/maintain it would be appreciated.

First Ecosphere in a Jar, samples collected from a local pond include coarse dirt/sand, some grasses and hair moss, and it's teaming with life!

Advice Needed: This is day two of the first jar I have made from a creek behind my apartment. I've opened the jar a few times to give it oxygen but I am not really seeing the flora give off any oxygen bubbles. Is this normal or do you think I need to make some changes?

First try, scooped up pond water and dirt and found a snail, how long does it take algae to grow?

Starting my bioactive terrarium

Hey guys... just need a little help with my terrarium.

I have collected soil from underneath a log in a forest next to me, my compost, moss in my backyard, plants that look hardy from my backyard and the forest next to me, water from a river near me, and water and algae from a fountain in my backyard. I have also added some filtered water from inside. I also put in two peach slices to help feed the critters and fertilize the soil.

I have noticed in the terrarium.. Two centipedes A spider with a sac of eggs Another spider At least 4 worms have been added Wood louse I think/hope a springtail Snails in the underground water section Water worms

The water layer is a deep as the soil layer which I am hoping does not pose a problems for the flora in the container. The lid is also fairly airtight but I'm not sure if it is completely.

My goal is to watch and see what flourishes and what dies out over time in this jar.

Do you think a healthy population of springtails will appear in this container over time? Is this enough biodiversity to kickstart the terrarium? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
