Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

These are some great resources for ID's of pests/algae.

Sunday glass cleaning. Left some of the calerpa in the tank so it looks a bit “jungle-ly” but still relaxing to me. Enjoy!

Opinions on this fish stocking as a first time reefer?

Posted: 12 Jun 2022 10:41 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I got a new 126 gallon aquarium and been doing some shopping for which fish I should add to the tank. I came up with this list. In your opinion, are these good picks or should I reconsider?

(1) Yellow Tang
(1) Six-Line Wrasse
(1) Azure Damselfish
(2) Common Clownfish
(2-3) Pajama Cardinalfish
(1) Firefish Goby

Are any of these guys incompatible with each other? Is this too many fish, or could I afford to add more? Would they be too difficult for a first timer?

Thanks for any replies!

Waste Water to Purified Water Ratio with Water Saver Kit?

Posted: 12 Jun 2022 05:06 AM PDT

After a month of procrastination, I finally installed the BRS Water Saver Kit on my SpectraPure MaxCap RODI unit. First off, purified water is produced at slightly more than twice the rate (about 9 gph vs 4-4.5 gph), which is awesome!

My question is about the ratio. The RODI unit manual says that the ratio should be between 3:1 and 6:1, and for the last 5 years using this unit, it always has been. Obviously that has changed now, with the addition of another RO membrane. It's 1.6:1 (which, doubled, would be 3.2:1). It seems like that makes sense, since there's 2 membranes, but just wondering if anyone else experienced this or has any other thoughts.

Water change question

Posted: 12 Jun 2022 02:23 AM PDT

My tank (lightly stocked 400L tank dominated by softies) has been running for 18 months and is pretty stable with parameters being managed just by water changes (10-20% per week depending on my mood). It's now been 2 weeks since my last water change and my parameter (I test ph, nitrate, phosphate, alk, cal and mag) have remained stable (minor alk and mag +trace dosing).

My question is, is there another benefit obtained from water changes or is it acceptable to monitor parameters and do it on an as needs basis. Is there anything else introduced to the tank from the water change that I'm not or can't test for?
