Large pet store chains have long started to view animals they sell as products and not living beings. I work at PetCo as the Aquatics Specialist. I have seen it first hand. I want to establish that the employees and managers of the locations are not at fault for the misstreatement of the animals directly, as they're following protocol. This is a corporate issue that we have to snuff out.

Not only are they keeping Betta fish (especially the Betta fish) in aborant conditions, but they're encouraging customers to continue the abuse by selling inadequate products marketed for beta fish and fish in general. Small "tanks," some have no filters, and most have no heaters.

I propose an "attack" of sorts.

The PetCo helpline: 877-738-6742 The PetSmart customer service: 888-839-9638 Get as far as you can to whoever will listen.

Encourage better treatment. Rather than a Betta tower of cups, propose a Betta WALL. A wall of 2 gal isolation tanks with the same sump and fogged glass between them. Inform them of the betta's nessicary care. Demand more for them. Since most Imagitarium products are produced by PetCo, encourage them to sell proper 5 gal Betta kits rather than improper 1.4 gal ones.

If enough if us do this, they will realize these are not isolated incidents. This will take time.

We start the barrage on June 20th and end it on the 30th. We will do this again at a later date. There are reasons for that. We will also continue with more durrastic measure in the near future if enough people are on board with the plan.

Let's make a discussion, the problems, the obsticales, things we're missing. We can make a difference for them. Please don't be dissmisive. These creatures matter and enough people CAN make a difference. Let's all discuss and overcome the concerns revovling around this.

Fin rot causes

My bettas fins seem to be tearing and falling off slowly. I have what I believe to be a healthy tank. The parameters are all near perfect except the ph is high sitting at 8.6. I also have a few small snails in the tank but no other animals. Any advice would be great, I have a feeling it's the ph at this point, but any advice would be great thank you.

hi everyone, this is my boy Dyrk last month and today. is his colour changing or could this be fin rot? I thought he was just developing his colour but now I'm looking at these photos side-by-side I wonder if there's something else?
