[MM] Can anyone help identify this macro that I found tangled in my chaeto fuge? Keep or toss?

Today I added the first corals to my dream tank, a 650L Red Sea peninsula

Aqueon 50w heater seems to not be working right, letting my water fall to 70F. When I try to correct, it’s only intermittently warm?

Has anyone else ever had this issue with the aqueon? Is it just crapping out already and I need to get something nicer ASAP? If you have recommendations for fluval evo heaters, lmk!

Quarantine Protocol Question

Posted: 18 Oct 2021 08:22 PM PDT

I see conflicting information on this topic. I want to "instacycle" a QT in order to reduce risk of ammonia. I bought a piece of live rock from my LFS purely for this purpose. Can I use medications with this rock in the tanka? It's only purpose is act as the biological filter and I have no intention of using it after the quarantine is over. I plan on using Prazipro and Curpramine. I'd love your thoughts!

Anemone ID

Flat worm ID? Should I be concerned? They are red but picture doesn’t show it much

Posted: 18 Oct 2021 07:02 PM PDT

is my BTA okay? the tentacles seem a bit short and stubby and quite spaced out, as opposed to other BTAs I've seen with really dense tentacles. the oral disc seems a bit flat too? I hope I'm just being paranoid lol

Red Sea Reefer 250 - is the emergency overflow drain supposed to be full of water?

Saw the other thread about a 10 month old Biocube. Here’s mine.

Friend gave me this little acropora frag. Told me to to place it on the sand me to give it time to acclimate to my lights but I think it’s bleaching?

Most cost effective RO/DI system for nano reef tank water changes?

Posted: 18 Oct 2021 11:52 AM PDT

What do nano reef owners use to filter their water for water changes? Im looking at the BRS ones which come highly recommended, but 75 gallons per day (and over 200$ cost) seems like overkill for my needs.

I use about 10 gallons of pure water per week in my tank between water changes and top offs. Right now I've been going to the fish store each week and I'm trying to cut back on that.

Is there any product that is cheaper than BRS' filters that works as well but is tailored or people who don't need so much pure water so quickly?

Edit: TDS of my tap water is 161ppm.

About my protein skimmer

Posted: 18 Oct 2021 02:19 PM PDT

I run a Red Sea max c130. I've always noticed the protein skimmer is loud, and creates a temperature raise in my tank when ran. Being that its only a 34 gal should I run the skimmer nightly, all the time,or like once every few days or so. I turn it off if it stops producing skim. The guy at my LFS says a skimmer is completely unnecessary for a tank this size. I'm skeptical of his opinion and want y'all's.

Visit #2 from cleaners

Posted: 18 Oct 2021 01:58 PM PDT

Turns out I dropped the nitrate and phosphate down a lot by adding a GSP and a tiny in tank refugium.

Last visit, phosphate was at 0.28 and is now at 0. Nitrate was at 10ppm and is 5ppm.

I'm still waiting for the full report to come from them but we actually had to dose phosphate into my system.

They also brought their own strand of RBTA. Will share more as I get the report and let the nem do its thing.

What can I do to heal my shriveled up anemone? (video attached)

Posted: 18 Oct 2021 05:25 PM PDT

https://youtu.be/iCByKWluq5U

My anemone here used to be 3-4 inches across but now is about the size of a penny. This happened because I neglected the tank for a while, algae bloomed and hadn't done a water change in months.

Last week I did a 50% water change (10 gallons) on my 20 gallon aquarium and am now monitoring my anemone.

Here are my water parameters as of today:

  • Temp: 77 deg F
  • salinity - 1.025
  • pH - 8.15
  • NO3/nitrate - 0
  • Phosphate - 0.5 - 1.0

I realize my nem might be at the point of no return but for the last week it still has been moving around even in its current poor state.

Should I dim the lights so it isn't overwhelmed during its recovery? Turn off skimmer? Feed it? Add bio-additives to supplement micro-organisms to help water biodiversity? Or just wait it out? Thanks in advance.
