Tanks are getting seriously overgrown but I like it, and so do the fish I never see anymore.

My first serious attempt at a planted tank. Any suggestions to help my emersed cultures transition smoothly?

Getting a little bit of mold on some of the moss and succulent tips on the top. Too much humidity? I had the lid closed but have since opened it a few inches. How to fix…?

update on "all my shrimps died"

Posted: 12 Oct 2021 09:02 PM PDT

Yesterday i made a post about how all my shrimps died.

First of all i wanna thank everyone for the incredible support i got, i wasnt expecting it and it made me feel better about the situation and about how everyone was trying to solve the mistery.

I let one day pass to see if it would work out.

I lost 100 crystal red shrimp, 5 amanos, 1 borara and 1 rummynose i had aged 8 years.

All my corydoras, ember tetras and iriatherina werneri survived.

What i have done?

I did a water change and put an air pump when i discoveref the issue and i removed the bodies i found.

I didnt found the body of the rummynose and amanos.

I cleaned the filter and topped the water with new water, again, without treating it.

I didnt feed them yesterday, only today and very few flakes and pellets.

The lights are on only 6 hours cause im with algae.

Also i found some crystal reds alive, maybe 3 or 4.

What caused it?

Possible answers are:

1 - tap water, tho i did water change again and nothing happened anymore with the same water, this time 10% and without prime and stability.

2- spoiled stability and tropica specislized, both bottles were in the end.

3 - heater malfunctioning, i turned it off and its still off, im in a warm country and when i detected the issue the water was at the same temp as usual.

4 - chemicals on bucker used for water change, tho i doubt since only i use it, maybe some cleaning product got to it somehow.

5 - overfeeding ? There are no rests of food in my tank never, with that quantity of shrimp they should eat everything that escapes my fish.

6 - poor filter circulation, this one added to maybe some other causes, for me its not the answer but its much better since i cleaned it, but not by much, i dont think tho since this filter has been running at this power for months.

Also one last thing, the tragedy happened like 10 hours after i changed water, if it was chemichals shouldt they all have died much sooner? Cleaning products or tap water, it doesnt make sense they die so much time later, maybe we could apply the same thinking to the stability and the tropica?.

Maybe it was the temp, more the circulation, more food before lights go off and some product all combined?

Im testing the water again tomorrow, but things look like nothing happened, they swimmed and ate like before, besides the algae everything looks good.

Again, thanks everyone for the support and the messages, ill never forget it and i will try to make no mistakes

Couldnt take care of my tank for 2 months because of highschool. Still looks fresh after a trim and water change.

Progress. All about 1 month apart. Lost some red but I think that’s because i dimmed down my lights trying to control algae might ramp it back up soon.

I quit injecting CO2 in my dirted tank over a year ago due to pandemic and what not. Just started adding CO2 again 8 Oct. In 2 days this Amazon sword leaf grew 10cm

Where do you buy your fish?

Posted: 12 Oct 2021 07:25 PM PDT

I been looking around the local big name pet stores at inventory and realize they don't have fish I am looking for, and the species vary a lot from store to store. When I look up fish stores/pet stores in my area I don't see any non big name places that look like they will have quality fish.

I live in the Westchester NY area if anyone is familiar.

The fish I'm looking for are Banded barbs, Bristlenose pleco, and Gourami.
