10 gal Update

Caught this little guy molting. He did a great job, it surely is very exhausting. Sorry for the shaking, I was pretty excited!

Time to say goodbye to my ‘dwarf’ water lettuce. I held out as long as I could but I’m running out of room for shrimps in the tank.

Harley Quinn is finally berried

Here is my one-eyed RCS, who is now berried. I don't know if she's in good health (other than the missing eye), so if you see anything abnormal, please tell me! I'm a beginner in shrimp-keeping and I worry a lot about those little guys.

New shrimp keeper here. I know this is nothing special, but I’m really enjoying these guys!

Shrimp all sitting on top of tank after water change

Posted: 09 Jun 2021 11:10 PM PDT

New shrimp keeper here two months in. Today, I did a 30% water change as part of my weekly routine using treated tap water. My tap comes out at 7.8 PH with zero ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. I'm using Fluval Shrimp Stratum and a bonzai tree which keeps my water buffered and stable at 6.4 PH. Pre-water change, temps are on the higher side at 82 degrees (my room temp; no AC). (On hotter days, I keep the lid open with a box fan blowing against the water surface.) I always make sure the new water is very close to that. All is well and everything in my tank are thriving. Had my first ghost shrimp birthing a few weeks ago.

Tank: Fluval Flex 9 gallons (with Co2 and added modded LED strips on lid)

Inhabitants: Blue Dreams, Amanos, Ghost Shrimp, Nerite snails, and various plants and Monte Carlo carpet (Excel)

Water paramaters: Within normal range (API Master + GH/KH tested + Bee Shrimp Mineralizer)

A few minutes after my 30% water change (extract and full immediate pour in), I noticed most of my shrimp camping out on a piece of small driftwood floating on top of my water. Even saw some tiny babies along the top I didn't know I had. Normally, they avoid any physical contact like the plague but this time they're piled on deep. Obviously, something went awry so naturally I panicked. I double-dosed Prime and added Stability. Turned off C02 and lighting. Water tested fine. I don't measure TDS. I wasn't sure if there had been a huge oxygen depletion. Drop checker still green. I flipped up my water filter output above the surface to create more agitation. It's been a few hours and all of the shrimps are thankfully normal now - grazing and swimming around. I know it will take a few more days until I'm out of the woods.

Can someone with more experience and knowledge explain what had happened? PH change shock? Should I do smaller weekly water changes? Slower water adds? Any suggestions appreciated.

Question about moving my shrimp to another tank

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 04:51 AM PDT

I currently have my shrimp in tank A, looking to move to tank B, do I have to acclimate the shrimp if I do a 50% or more water change with tank A water? (can fill tank b 100% with tank A water if it matters)

Classic Iwagumi with Shrimp only...possible?

Posted: 10 Jun 2021 04:29 AM PDT

hey there, i'm planning on my first iwagumi tank. it will be 40x25x30 (30 ltr, 7.9 us gal more or less) with only monte carlo planted. by the time it's ready for cycling, i will add several pots of stem plants (limnophila sessiliflora) and blast it with pressurized CO2 system in hope to help reduce the growth of diatoms/brown algae or any others...

once it's ready, i'm planning to add 12-16 shrimps but haven't decided which species yet...currently my concerns; will my tank be safe for shrimps? it has co2 running and i don't know if it can stressed out shrimps...

but if it's possible which species should be easier to adapt to my planned tank?? please advise :)

EDIT:i'm planning to use 2 medium size river rock just for simplicity..but any suggestions for, maybe, safer rocks for shrimps are welcome :)
