How do YOU remove encrusting SPS from rocks (to frag)? Posted: 21 Jun 2021 06:43 PM PDT Thinking forward, as I've got a few that have started to grow and spread. Namely porites, leptastrea, psammacora, pavona. Can you pry them up with a scalpel before snapping? Or do you have to chip away at them with a chisel? [link] [comments] | ||

Saltwater nerite snails flipping over? Posted: 21 Jun 2021 03:37 PM PDT I just cycled a 50 gallon tank with dry rock for three months and just bought a blue damsel, 10 hermit crabs, and 12 nerite snails. However, the nerites don't seem to doing so hot. Every day I see 3-4 of them flipped over on the sand. When I fish them out, I tap on their feet, which is usually slightly out, and then retract themselves. However, whenever I put them back in the tank on the right side, they don't move. When I check them the foot is still retracted. Nerites can right themselves if they flip over so I feel like something is wrong. When I tested nitrate it was 5-10 ppm. A possible culprit is the line of petroleum jelly I put on along the rim of the tank to cover a gap in my tank's lid. I read that was a way to prevent nerites from leaving the tank but I'm afraid they might be ingesting it and dying in the tank. What is the cause of the snails flipping over? Is it normal?
