Since you loved the nem pic earlier here is the rest of the tank at the local zoo. It's 300gal. I used to volunteer to do maintenance in 2006-2009 ish. It used to be sps dominated

Does anyone know what kind of coral this is?

Posted: 05 Apr 2021 08:49 PM PDT

My prized Macroalgae. The always collect a ton of detritus because my massive hermit crabs stir up the substrate non stop.

I am devastated

For the past 2 weeks I have consumed and insane amount of reefing content probably around 3-5 hours a day. I had bought everything we needed and we had started cycling the tank. A couple of days ago I think hey maybe I should ask my landlord if we are able to keep fish. Well I call them today and tell them I have a 30g tank that I want to put some fish in and welp I got shut down. Had to put everything away but at least I have everything ready for whenever I move out. They said because I live in the second floor they wouldn't allow it as it could cause water damage if it breaks which is reasonable but still. This hobby sounds so fun and exciting but I guess I have to way another year to be able to start and get going. With all of you out there keeping a tank you are lucky and I envy you for now but I'll have a gorgeous tank in a year I will show you all!

Does anyone else struggle to keep Torch coral?

Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:01 PM PDT

I don't know what it is, I've got acros, acans, hammers and everything in between that grow just fine. I put a Torch in my tank and it's torched...

Thought I'd give it another go about 4 months ago and got a dragon soul head. It has slowly shriveled up, and now I can see the bare skeleton. I've tried slowly, as in between 3 week gaps, moving it to different flow and lighting areas to see if it would puff up. It would puff back up for the first day of moving, and then continue to go down hill. Just don't understand my hammer doing to well, but not the torch.
