Whiskey Bottle & Cork Questions

Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:12 PM PST

Hello all, I have a recently finished bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon, and had a couple questions about using it for a jarrarium.

  1. I rinsed out the bottle with a round of boiling water, and have been letting it air dry, but I wonder if the cork itself may present a danger to whatever I put into it. Is there any suggested method to sterilizing the cork/ ensuring that there won't be any leftover whiskey impurities?

  2. Will a cork be a good enough long-term seal for the jarrarium, or will the living, organic components be an issue and eventually cause a breakdown of the cork, and thus break the seal?

Thanks in advance everyone.
