[NSFW] Update on abandoned curb fishes. Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:54 PM PDT I got home from work and immediately went to the tank. While the water quality was getting better, the fish looked weak, not really able to swim. I took about half their water and half new, conditioned tap water. I changed out the gravel substrate which was completely full of junk. I did a bare bottom quarantine. I left their filter media cycling and adjusted the filter to the slowest speed thank you to the redditor who told me about this. I added them back to the new cleaned, better water and they just couldn't make it. This is when I was able to get my best look at them yet. I could tell the colors they were supposed to be, but most of the pigment in their scales was fading. They couldn't swim and were in labored breathing. I stabilized them each against part of the tank and even turned the filter off. I laid on my carpet with my dog by the tank but within 30 minutes, I couldn't do anything else. I buried them in my yard. The sadness I feel is large. I also had a euthanasia today at work (vet clinic) which weighed heavy on me. While today is not their day, or mine, I'll forever love that they didn't die alone, outside, in cold, dark Sacramento. And that they'll always, still have each other. [link] [comments] | ||
