| Posted: 15 Nov 2020 10:43 PM PST Hi there, I'm a new common goldfish owner, I just adopted him recently but today I am starting to notice some weird behavior. When I first got him I immediately noticed he was quite erratic, he would swim across the tank over and over bumping into the walls. He got used to the walls eventually and doesn't do that anymore, and for the past couple days he's been doing pretty well, however sometimes he will go to one of the sides of the tank and start pacing back and forth, I've been watching him do this on the front side of the tank for almost an hour now. What does this mean? The water started turning green this morning too but when checking the ammonia and nitrate levels it all seems fine. He is about 3.5in long and in a 10 gallon tank. The place I adopted him from suggested he likely wouldn't grow much more so I figured 10gal would be enough. Does he need more space? Is he just bored? I really want to give him the best life I can, please help!!! [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 15 Nov 2020 10:39 PM PST Hey guys, I have a problem I need a quick fix for. I was changing a fish tank water for the first time when I realized I forgot I don't have any tap water treater. The pets mart near me is closed and I just want to get 3 gold fish and 1 tiny to stay alive till tomorrow morning. I currently have them in a small container with the old water. I was thinking of filling up the tank with bottled water since it doesn't have chlorine. What should I do? Help!!! P.s I have a 10 gallon tank with a tank filter. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:11 PM PST I've noticed one of my fish occasionally rumps himself on the rocks of my tank and swims very fast. No other fish has exhibited such behavior and water quality appears to be good. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of parasite. Could garlic and a salt bath kill the parasites in the fish or would I need to buy some meds? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:06 PM PST Are salt baths good for flukes and are they safe for goldfish? I have kosher salt and I heard it's far more effective than aquarium salt for short term use in salt baths. [link] [comments] | ||
| Can anyone help me work out volume of a tank Posted: 15 Nov 2020 10:31 AM PST It's been over 30 years since I sat in a maths class. For the first time since then, I wish I'd listened to my teacher! I'm trying to calculate the volume (in litres) of my triangular, corner tank. Two sides are the same width, 36cm and the other side (the front) is 48cm wide. Depth is 25cm. I've tried to google how to work it out but can't seem to find a formula that helps. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 15 Nov 2020 08:07 AM PST My goldfish (George) is constantly freaking me out by staying really still just under the water line... he doesn't gasp, he just sits there until Fred (his bro) or I move near him then he'll swim off amd then return to his 'sleeping' spot again.... he does this at least once a day for a few hours (different times of the day) and is fine swimming around the rest of the time... Water conditions are ok... and as I said, he swims fine the rest of the day/night so I've always assumed he's just an obvious sleeper but Fred doesn't do it, and I keep having heart attacks thinking he's dead because he's so still! Can anyone confirm what it is he's doing? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 15 Nov 2020 10:10 AM PST hi i have a common goldfish (Charlie) and he had a pretty traumatic past before i could get to him. he was part of a biology experiment at the local charter school that my friend took home because if students didn't take the fish home, they were fed to the class snapping turtle (we are students, not at the same school, i take care of all 5 tanks of mine fully on my own). friend went "shit, i can't take care of another fish rn" and offered it to me. friend also had a previous tank that was given to me with filter and everything else, for free very graciously. so he's doing much better now, has gotten kinda huge, but lost the lovely black markings he had on his head and body. his head is instead a beautiful deep orange, deeper than the rest of his body. im not upset with how he looks, but i do miss how cool he looked. any thoughts on why he lost his old black markings? TL;DR- common goldfish with trauma but also really cool black markings got adopted by me, lost his black markings but gained a beautiful red on the head as he got huge- why? [link] [comments] | ||
