ID on this mollusk, and is it dangerous to corals? I read boring bivalves make holes in coral skeletons

Nano Reef

Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:22 PM PDT

Hey everybody! I've been watching this sub from the freshwater world and I think I'm ready to take the plunge into saltwater. I have a 7 gallon cube tank that is begging to be set up. I have a few questions.

1) Can it be done in that tank 2) What would be a responsible stocking choice fish wise (pair of small clowns? Or even a solo clown and some shrimps + cc) 3) Easy beginner corals 4) I have really nice ONF Flat nano freshwater light, can this support corals

I appreciate any of you who take the time to answer these burning questions thank you and I hope to start posting here with tanks of my own soon!

Time for the first FTS of my ReefTank. I bought it with all inhabitants and had to rebuild from scratch without any previous experience with SW.

Looking for some insight on the behavior of a maroon clownfish.

Posted: 11 Oct 2020 01:52 PM PDT

We have a large maroon (4") and a small one together. The small one has always behaved perfectly submissively, and the large one has always received the submissive behavior like she's a literal saint.

Seriously, she's such a good natured maroon. Never aggressive, never mean, very kind to everyone. All she wants to do is chill in her nem(s) all day. Sometimes little clown isn't invited, so she nudges him out.

When rocks are moved in the tank, she gets defensive, but not with hands. When a hand is near one of her anemones, she comes over and brushes her tail against the hand. She'll do this for a few seconds, turn to see if the hand is still there, then do it again.

I can't find this behavior anywhere online because the assumption is that maroons will just bite. She doesn't. Does anyone here know what this behavior might be? Is it submissive? Is it her telling the invader that this nem is occupied? Is it dominant?
