My bedroom aquarium corner

Posted: 19 Oct 2020 06:11 AM PDT

Been working on this tank a lot since my dad passed away in August. It gives me a lot of peace. Love watching them eat their dinner. Dad always loved to talk to me about my oto’s in my other tank.

I waited 6 years before I lived somewhere I could have a tank again. 12 weeks to have the aquarium built. 4 weeks to cycle. And now finally - I have fish! :D

Agreed not to get any more tanks...until I saw this whole setup on sale for $50. The previous owner sure had great taste!

I got a 125gl to get 1 Oscar so I wouldn’t some day need a bigger tank.... then I got 3 & now I’ll need a bigger tank. It’s an addiction not a hobby.

Setting this tank up right across my bed was a great idea.

Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s not something to be proud of.

So I work at a high end fish store that gets a good amount of traffic from a wide range of people, from the dentist who drops 5k to get a salt water tank set up in his office to to a father getting his kid a betta, you get the idea. So at this store I talk with a lot of newbies to the hobby and like almost all of them show me a photo of there tank and say it's nothing special and point at one of our display tanks and say wish I could make something like that. And so I tell them in this hobby money doesn't matter what does matter is your creativity. You can spend thousands of dollars buying the best equipment and most rare and beautiful animals and decor and still make a ugly tank in the same way you can spend 50 buy a starter 5 gallon tank kit and a betta and go to a pond or river collect rocks and wood and make a stunning masterpiece of a tank. What do y'all think?

Everyone is posting jumping Oscars, so here's me feeding my monster (ft. Tiny). So sorry for bad video quality, I'm not good at using both hands.

Regular Blue Acara have been my dream fish for years, and here in Australia they're a needle in a haystack. I finally am the proud owner of 2 of them!
