I’m a horrible shrimp mom :(

Posted: 05 Sep 2020 03:06 PM PDT

Story time: I've been a shrimp mom for about 1 month now (red cherry). Today I bought 9 lovely blue dream shrimp for my other tank (I got lucky and I have a berried female in there) anyways, I drip acclimated them and then poured them all in my tank. I counted 8 of them once they all settled in and I figured the other one was hiding or scavenging her new territory. 2h later I go check up on them to see how they're doing, I pick up their bag they came from to go throw it out and all I could see in the corner of the bag was something blue :( I gasped and swear I could hear my heart shatter, I left a shrimp in the waterless bag...I hurried up and filled a pitcher of aquarium water and dropped her in there to see if she would still be alive after 2h of being stuck in an empty bag. SHES ALIVE, as soon as I put her in the water she started swimming all over! I was so relieved I'm not going to lie I started chocking up. She's now in the tank with the others and has now been named lucky. I always check the bag before I toss it but for some reason this time I didn't. Lesson learned: Always. Check. Your. Bag!! Thanks for reading my little vent. :]

Anyone else get shrimp manicures sometimes?

Posted: 05 Sep 2020 03:08 PM PDT

I get a lot of peeling skin around my fingernails and no amount of lotion ever seems to fix it, it's especially bad around my thumbs! I love my little cherry shrimps and remembered how they've done work on my hands before while I was cleaning the tank, so I stuck my thumb in the water for a little while. Lo and behold, the one little red fellow comes up and and starts using all those tiny hands to work! And now most the skin on my thumb is smooth as can be, no lotion or bleeding! I love these lil dudes and how they give you free manicures so readily hahah!

Will slate stones/rocks increase my tank's TDS level?

I love the look of the slates, but I also want to breed pinto shrimps.

Can I combine the 2 together in the same tank?

My tank is 8 gallons + ada soil and fully planted

Missing berried shrimp

Posted: 06 Sep 2020 01:59 AM PDT

One of my shrimp has vanished. I have checked the filter but they can't get sucked up and I have looked around the entire tank. I seen her yesterday but now I can't find her at all. She is pretty big and berried. No dead shrimp bodies anywhere.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I don't want to disturb the tank because I have 4 berried shrimp
