What type of dirt is best for a jarrarium?

Posted: 21 Jul 2020 08:54 AM PDT

Im a complete beginner at this, and while getting dirt i see many different types and im not sure which one work best. (Its for a plant terrarium, not an aquarium)

So what am i looking for in dirt? Do different types of plants need specific dirt to survive in a jar? Does it need to have bugs in it or be clean? Thanks.

Plant recommendations?

Hey friends, I work at a pet store and we sell fish. I have a regular who came in the other day, and I had previously sold him some amazon swords as well as an anubias on driftwood. He asked what is best type of plant to use for a large jar aquarium that he has a betta in. Unfortunately he has no filter and wanted to know what type of plant would fare well in that type of environment. Does anyone have any suggestions? The store I work at, we only sell potter anubias, as well as anubias on driftwood, amazon swords, and java ferns on mats. We also have moss balls. There were other types of plants we used to stock at our store but they didn't sell very well at our store so we stopped ordering them.

Lake bottom jar

Ruby Fittonia, Irish moss, and Pamela Ivy in my lamp base. This is my second “dirty jarrarium“ as I use my own worm castings and do not sterilize. The first one is still healthy. I added diatomaceous earth and coconut activated charcoal.
