The lice were too much for him :( RIP to my only pearlscale. His favorite foods were repashy and duckweed to fill him up like a balloon.

I was just trying to take video of my mystery snail eating for friend

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:35 PM PDT

Bottom is my current set up, top is my plans to make it friendly for my goldies and future dojo loaches. Questions in comments.

Does anyone know why he’s just kinda sitting on the bottom of my tank? My other two were doing it too but they’ve stopped, I don’t know what’s wrong, I don’t think he’s eating anything I put in for them either

My oranda keeps eating bubbles :(

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 11:41 PM PDT

So... one of my oranda keeps eating bubbles, the other one is just fine.

My water parameters are fine, temperature it's fine, got plenty of oxigenation.

I read somewhere that it could be swim bladder's but he doesn't have any other symptoms? I really don't get it

Please help, it's driving me nuts! :(

White growth on fish

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:46 PM PDT

Hey fellow fish-parents.

On of my fishy boys has developed a white growth on his face. I just noticed today. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much. He's eating and swimming pretty regularly.

He's always been pretty healthy, and this is a new thing. Anyone seen this sort of affliction before? Thanks.

Please help :(

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:55 PM PDT

Edit: I've put them back with my turtle now :( I wanted to give them a good life but i see that these aren't the right living conditions. On my payday I'll buy a big at least 20 gallon aquarium and put maybe 3 or 4 feeder goldfish in. For now though I'll keep the plants I've bought and the rocks. I'll need to also buy a filter but thank you to everyone who gave me more info on how to be a better goldfish owner. 🙏

I got a huge fish bowl yesterday and put in a bunch of rocks, a few gems and 2 plants. The 2 original goldfish I got both died within a 24 hour period (from shock I'm guessing?) and the 2 new ones are both pecking at the surface almost like they're eating or something. Why do my fish keep dying? Is it because they're feeder goldfish? We buy goldfish every week for my turtle to eat and I decided to raise some in a separate bowl. I even added some of the water from my turtles Aquarium so they could acclimate to the new biosphere a bit better but they end up dying. What am I doing wrong?

Goldfish changed color

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:32 PM PDT

I have a goldfish in a pond that was about 1 1/2 " when I got them, and was mostly orange, but with some black, mostly on the fins. Now, about two months later, they are completely orange. They are growing fine and nothing else seems off. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Do goldfish need caves/decor in their tank?

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:14 PM PDT

I have a 30 gallon with a couple of fancies, and they get along great. I have some fake plants in there, and I bought this big fake stump for them to hide in, but they don't use it much and it takes up a lot of tank space. Would they rather have the room to swim instead of the hiding place?

New Ranchu Goldfish Hiding

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:29 PM PDT

Hi everyone. This is my first post here!

I've recently set up a new tank and introduced two fish: a 5cm oranda and a 4cm ranchu.

The ranchu was introduced one day before the oranda. Initially, they were social with each other. After maybe two days, the ranchu is now constantly hiding in the rock pile.

The tank is well established and the water is good. I filled it initially several months ago and have only just put fish in.

I'm really worried about the ranchu as it is not coming out to eat. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: The tank is 300L (79 gallons). The water has been cycling for about four months now.

Advice Wanted: Feeding Veggies to Goldfish

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:07 AM PDT

So I've been the proud parent of my three fancy goldies for about half a year now, and at this point I want to try to diversify their diet by feeding them some vegetables. The only problem is that I have only been feeding them pellets so far, and now they dont seem to recognize anything else I offer them as food.

Any ideas how I might solve this? 🌱🌱🌱

These two have been swimming against the stream of the water fountain for over an hour. It almost looks like they're playing with each other, swimming around each other and touching often. What are they doing and are they okay? (I often see these two hanging around together under the lily pads)

My 2 commons are dealing with some fin rot. I thought it was ich but I noticed the ends of their fins turning white and fraying. Plus there wasn't a bunch of white dots on them like you see with ich. How do i treat this?

Looking for feedback on a temporary tank for a young comet goldfish.

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:39 AM PDT

As the title says, I'd love some feedback on my temporary setup! I have a small fish rescue operation but specialize in bettas. I've recently branched out into other tropical fish, but this is my first ever goldfish.

He's about two inches long and was kept with a pleco and guppy in a heated ten gallon tank.

I have him currently in a storage bin with 15-18ish gallons of water, four cycled sponge filters, driftwood, and some plants. He's eating well, is very active, and has really come out of his shell. He used to spend every second hiding and is now out and about all the time.

I know the filtration isn't ideal so I do a partial water change every 3 days.

My question: how long can he safely live in this temporary setup?

I've had plans to build a pond in my yard for quite a while now, and am thinking of keeping this guy until I have a proper 200 or so gallons for him to move into. Will he be ok in this setup for a while until the pond is ready for him? I was planning to rehome him once I knew he was healthy, but have kinda fallen in love. I don't want him to be unhealthy or unhappy though.

Selecting young fish based on their adult body type?

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:31 AM PDT

(Let me preface this by saying I know I will absolutely fall in love with any fish that find themselves in my care!)

So I'm not ready for them yet, but when the time comes I'm wondering how I go about selecting young fish that will grow to have my prefered type? (I keep leaning towards black moors but if I happen to see black or blue orandas at any of my local stores I might not be able to resist haha). But essentially I'm less into the super deep round body (like ryukins) and I much prefer longer bodied with long tail fins. Will young fish have any indications I can look for? Do they tend to maintain their proportions as they grow? Also, is there any way to tell if an oranda will get the full face wen or just the top? I love the squishy full faced ones but I'm not so much a fan of the ones that just have the 'hat' hehe. Thanks in advance!
