Help! We found a baby in our pond! Posted: 09 Jul 2020 09:09 PM PDT We are new to koi/goldfish and learning as we go after buying our house a year ago. We have an approximate 500 gallon concrete pond in an atrium. 6 fish (2 koi, the rest goldfish). Good water quality. We vacuum regularly, change out water, etc. Tonight, we discovered a baby that's about 2". It's dark so I can't be sure there aren't more, plus there's a little bridge we can't see under. It's also hard to see because it's the same color as the pond. It's eating algae on the wall. From what I gather from reading, this little guy has been around for a bit. Do we just leave him and hope for the best? Go buy a small aquarium for him? Seems like it's a miracle he's made it this far. [link] [comments]

Something wrong with young butterfly koi? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 01:27 PM PDT I bought three butterfly koi I would say about a month ago. They were probably 2 inches at the time very small. I put them in a smaller pond to grow them out. They have all grown in size but I've found two of them seem larger than the third. The third also seems to hangout at the bottom of the pond where as the two larger ones have begun coming up to the top to eat and explore more. The third also from what I've observed seems less active. He will still swim away pretty quick but I caught him pretty easily in a net. Whereas I would probably have to drain the pond some to be able to catch the others. From watching him it seems he still sort of eats algae and stuff off the bottom. I was just wondering if maybe something could be wrong with him, or if he is stunted and just not developing at the same rate and needs more time I've grown koi out before but I don't think I ever noticed weird behavior like this though I know they can grow at different rates and it depends on how they were bred and all. But He just seems to not even be hanging out with the other fish even just sort of off on his own sitting on the bottom. [link] [comments]
