| Male goldfish harassing female goldfish? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 03:46 PM PDT I have a 125 with one goldfish, whom I didn't know the gender of. I recently added two more goldfish, who turned out to be males. I know this because they both have breeding pimples on their gills, and are relentlessly harassing my other goldfish, which must be a female. I feel so bad because there's two of them and they won't leave her alone!! She seems so exhausted and she's never had to deal with this behavior before (at least since I've had her and she was really young when I got her). Is there something I can do to calm this behavior? I don't want it to affect her health is that even a thing? I mean surely they're made to breed so she should be fine but I don't know I've never had to deal with this. [link] [comments] | ||
| Fish fins tearing, Large white splotch. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:37 PM PDT Hi all. I recently found my two orandas fins were tearing. At first i thought it was ich, had it for about a month and went away. Recently it came back, It only seems to be with goldfish, since it has spread through all three of them. I treated with ick cure, nothing getting better, but the blotches are not spreading. They aren't small, they look like a bigger version of ick. Every day their fins get more torn, It isn't killing them or making them not eat, My tank is a 20 gallon. [link] [comments] | ||
| Need helping deciding what species of fancy goldfish I should get Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:32 AM PDT Hi everyone, Big lurker here who has looked at lots of pics of goldfish for the past few months. To start off, I'm going to apologize in advance if I offend anyone. (I'm sorry!) I've currently got a 55 gallon tank cycling. I'd like to get two fancy goldfish. I've got my heart set on one completely orange fancy goldfish and one goldfish that is a mix of orange and white (orange head, white belly/orange top, and the tail is a mix of orange and white--orange at the base and then as you get to the tip of the tail--white)....and nice, flowing fins. Before I launch into dramatics and bore you to death with a 95% similarity to the spheal I've sent to all of my family members who have tried to help me look... I can't figure out what species of fancy goldfish I'm looking for or what seller I should look at to buy my pair. That being said, I thought oh you know fantail goldfish sound like they match what I'm looking for. Oh boy was I in for a ride the more I did research to find a good seller (either online or locally, mostly online due to COVID19 and my hesitance to go out because I live with elderly folks). For one, I learned that most pet stores (big chains), their fantails could be a mix of whatever. It could be a low grade ryukin. It could be a mix of species. Plus, they're not always in the best of conditions (some stores anyways). So I thought okay let me look into other species of fancy goldfish....and I learned several things about myself and I apologize again in advance if I offend anyone. I learned: - I don't like the hump or how... deep (?) the belly looks on ryukins (they look like they've swallowed an orange lol sorry) - I learned I don't want a fish with a wen or any sort of growth that I may have to trim (I read that some wens will grow so slowly or not at all due to genetics, but I'm not willing to take that chance....quite frankly, I'm terrified of being close to a goldfish with scissors). - I learned that I don't like the telescope/googly eyes All in all, it leaves me very limited in choices and quite frankly, I don't know if there is any other species of goldfish out there. I want to find a reputable seller. I found a seller on eBay (not naming anyone, but they sell goldfish online for very cheap and a very reasonable shipping fee) who seems to sell some nice goldfish labeled as fantails, but youtube reviews are mixed...and I'm always a worrying wart. It makes me apprehensive to buy from them. Budget is no issue unless each fish cost like 500 dollars. I'm thinking maybe each fish, 150 USD max? I'd like to get them when they're small just so I can watch them grow up, but I don't know. Also, I realize that I'm sound super picky and I apologize in advance. I just don't know fancy goldfish is left and what seller to turn to (lol). I just want to make sure I pick the right goldfish (because really, if I got a fish that needed their wen trimmed, he/she is going to the vet because I can't do it) because I want them to be my companions for the next 15, 20+ years. Also, the tank that I'm currently cycling is completely fishless. However, I plan to quarantine in a large storage bin before I even introduce them to their forever home. My thoughts are if they are carrying parasites or any illness, I'd isolate it in the bins and it'd be gone, rather than I get it into their forever homes and then the entire tank has to be dosed in medication or whatever is needed. Please let me know if I am incorrect in this thought process. Thank you so much in advance and I apologize if I offend anyone. If you feel like sighing, please join my family onboard the "she is on the doomed quest" boat (lol). My entire family (extended as well) knows I've been on this doomed, picky quest of mine for weeks now and thinks I'll probably have to settle because the fish of my dreams doesn't exist.
