For the “new” reefer. You will see one or all of these at some point. Knowing the difference could save your fish or tank. Post 1

How much would a piece like this cost? Measures about 14 inches long and 10 inches wide. 100+ heads.

Tonight the part of Jaws will be played by my female clownfish Tim-Tom, who will try to bite and attack me relentlessly while I scrape algae.

Power head and pump advice?

Posted: 18 Apr 2020 08:50 PM PDT

Hello everyone. Based on advice received from this forum and past experience from my father and brothers I am ordering a biocube 32 from the LFS to replace my heavily modded, heavily beat to death, nanocube 27. I was wondering if the stock pump on the biocube is enough flow for my fish or do I need to get a power head. I do not currently use on my nanocube but it has two pumps to the biocubes 1. I am skittish of powerheads since I've seen dads gobies meet their death in ones before and I have a 2 ft long engineer goby who will be going into my new tank.

If possible I would prefer to upgrade the pump or add a wave maker if anyone thinks I absolutely need it. Only fish I have are that engineer goby and a 4 stripe damsel who is around 3" long. Will be getting a coral beauty angel as well. Plan to add a nem and pulsing Xenia eventually.

Will I be ok with the stock pump and no power head?

30g Refugium only Reef?

Posted: 18 Apr 2020 07:05 PM PDT

I'm starting up my first reef tank slowly but surely. I've been doing a lot of research into refugiums and I've seen lots of big tanks (190g+) and lots of nano tanks run with nothing but a refugium. I'm not planning on holding a lot of fish, maybe a pair of clowns, and not a lot of crazy corals either. Would I be able to run a 30g reef on nothing but a HOB refugium like in some nanos? I've seen the aqua clear 70 modded into one, and I was thinking if I did that along with an extra wave maker in the tank. Would the smaller refugium be enough filtration for the tank?

Edit: I guess what I'm really asking is would I be better making the aqua clear into a fuge, or leave it as a regular filter with some bio balls/carbon?

I bought this thinking it was an acan, but now I have my doubts. Can anyone confirm?
