| What's causing red spots on my goldfish? Posted: 18 Apr 2020 09:36 PM PDT For about three weeks now my goldfish has been getting red spots on his tail and fins that have been coming and going. Today he now has one on his gills. I've done multiple %75, %50, %25, %10 primed water changes over the last three weeks Parameters are reading 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and nitrate at 5ppm and PH 7 I can't figure out what's wrong and what's causing this Fish is behaving normally also. | Posted: 18 Apr 2020 03:27 PM PDT So yesterday I had very high ammonia 2.0-4.0ppm Nitrite was about 0.50ppm. I did a 60% water change and got the ammonia to 0.25-0.50. Nitrite to 0.25-0.50 ppm Then did another 20% water change straight away and got the ammonia to 0-0.25ppm and nitrite to 0.25. Checked again this morning and ammonia was at 0-0.25 and nitrite was at 0.50ppm. Did a 50% water change and nitrite was STILL 0.50ppm? What the fuck am I doing wrong? edit: added Prime each time water changing. Please help. [link] [comments] | ||

| My tap water is not awesome, what can i do to help it? Posted: 18 Apr 2020 03:50 PM PDT Hello! Ive got a single goldfish in a 50 gal, gravel substrate, large canister filter. My goldie has been fighting a bad bacterial infection and im currently treating with melafix to see if i can get a handle of it before going to more drastic measures. My tap water here has always had pretty high ammonia (1.0ppm) but i live right on a river and with the awesomeness of spring my tap water is alot of river water. In the recent i noticed my normally crystal clear aquarium water is starting to get a cloudy/green tinge to it. I did a water change. Its arguably even worse now. I tested my tap water and the ammonia is crazy and now up to 1.5/2.0ppm and the pH is at 8.4!!! Ive been fighting slightly high ammonia and nitrates in his tank, and i just got the ammonia down to 0ppm, but im still working on getting the nitrates to drop. The crazy high ammonia and pH of my tap is really worrying me that ill be doing more harm than good by water changes, but i know its not an option not to do them. Im really worried mainly of stressing my goldie out further by using my tap, but i also know that no water changes is going to stress him out too! Does anyone have experience with this? I dont know if i should buy water or what water to even buy. I have been using prime in the past, that high pH really worries me, his pH is at 7.4 already. Or is the melafix causing my water to look cloudy/green? Theres also the question of what else could be in my tap water right now- i know its river water, and you can smell it. [link] [comments] | ||
