Breeding my black moor.

Posted: 14 Apr 2020 02:26 AM PDT

Hey reddit,

I want to have fry from my black moor.

I keep the fish in a pond and I find it more fun if there are colourfull fish in the pond instead of black.

Is there a type of moor that I can breed with my black moor to make a orange/white type of fish?

(I don't have problems with a bit of black on them like calico's.)

New To Goldfish and Have Some Questions.

Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:53 AM PDT

I've been lurking around on here and online, and have decided to get a goldfish tank.

I'm looking at a 55gal (since that's what my local pet store carries) and am wondering if I should use three 200 gal per hour filters for the tank. I can't find any filters for my tank size that have a high enough gal per hour according to the suggested gal per hour for tank size for goldfish. I just don't want it to be too much movement for any goldfish I get.

Also, I don't mind having a bare bottom tank if that's what will keep my goldfish happy and healthy, but I see a lot of folks with sand in theirs and I'm wondering if the sand they sell at say petcosmart or what have you is safe or if there's a difference between "saltwater" sand and "freshwater" sand (because I can't seem to find any that's just freshwater sand it's all unlabeled or saltwater).

I'm also wondering if just two goldfish is enough for social fish. I wouldn't want more (for my 55gal tank size though three fish is also an option I'd be open to) and would rethink my options on type of fish if two or three isn't enough.

For reference, I'm going for Fancy goldfish, though I don't have a specific type in mind.

I'm also wondering how you quarantine fish just because its something people reference and I can't seem to find out how to do it. Would I quarantine goldfish from the same place away from each other when I did get a tank set up? Or would they be fine to transition into their tank together? (this is presuming same petstore/tank - though if they were in the same petstore and in different tanks would it matter?)

Please note, I don't have anything right now, I'm still very much in the research stage. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Online ordering is also cool for tanks and whatnot, if a 60+gal would be better for 2-3 goldfish I'd be down to try and find one, if there's some filter that you all suggest for your tanks too that'd be neat with a link. If there's some online shop that has all that stuff I'd love a link.

Also I'm down to read any links to sites that you think have good info too. I'm soaking up info about fish because I want to do everything as best I can. Thanks for reading this wall of text.

Update

The bottom one is Splashy (My sister named him) and the top one is Steven. They're both from the fair.

Okay, so there was a (I think) fungus or bacteria growing in the inside of the bottom one's eye. He was very lethargic and bottom resting. In the tank, there must have been at least 2 1/2 inches of gravel.

While doing a tank change we looked at the gravel. It was so full of bacteria and poop! It was unbelievable how much gravel was in the tank and how much bacteria in the gravel. How was the fish supposed to get better if they were constantly being attacked by bacteria!! So, the gravel was removed, and his eye was getting better by the day. I was thinking of dosing him with API Fungus Cure, to get rid of the leftover cloud. (I know this sounds bad, but mind you, it was originally growing on the pupil) He also started acting better, swimming to the top for food again, and swimming around with his buddy.

Fancy Goldfish Getting Bullied. Help!

Fancy Goldfish Getting Bullied. Help!

Hey everyone,

I've been in the hobby for about a little under a year. I have a 55g tank with one fancy, two comets, and two shubunkins. Didn't have much issues besides occasional swim bladder. However, in the past month, the other fishes have been nipping aggressively at the fancy. I find him in the morning all shredded up...this has happened 4-5 times already. The fancy seems resilient because I can see him recovering after each time. It's just heart breaking to see him getting hurt time after time.

The only thing I've done differently in the past month was adding a heater to the tank. The fancy and one of the shubunkins were having recurring swim bladder problem. I read that having a heater may help with digestion, and it has been working. But maybe the heat is causing the aggression too? I'm not sure.

Any comments or feedback or suggestions would be appreciated!
