Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

These are some great resources for ID's of pests/algae.

Two months into my reef tank!

Help!! Set up my first saltwater aquarium and within the first couple days it developed this white residue all over the glass. It is nearly impossible to get off but I managed to get some off with my algae scrapers. Is this caused from the salt? How do I get rid of it?

Here are my parameters for the past few weeks:

2/24/20 1:55pm Salinity 34.2ppm Calcium 429 dKh 9.1 Phos 0.00

2/25 11:40pm Sainity 34.3 Calcium 431 dKh 9.0 Phosphate

2/26 9:44pm Salinity 34.3 dKh 9.0 Phos 0.02

2/29/20 Started dosing Amino Acids

3/1/20 Water Change at 8:30pm

3/2/20 12:15pm Salinity 34.4ppt MAG 1800 CA 471 dKh 8.9

3/5/20 6:16pm Salinity 34.2ppt CA 356 dKh 8.9 Phosphate 0.10

3/6/20 9:20pm Salinity 34.2ppt CA 446 dKh 8.6 MAG 1900 Phos 0.01

I just got the Red Sea Mag test on the 2nd and holy hell is it HIGH. Everything else is fairly stable and where it should be, but this Mag is crazy. I noticed my Alk and CA are decreasing now as well. What can I do about this/should I even do anything?

First tank - am I crazy for wanting a Red Sea Reefer 300 or 425 deluxe?

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 09:28 AM PST

Ok so.. I was considering buying a Biocube or a Fluval megaflex SW, but considering all the costs involved and knowing I won't be satisfied with either option in the long run, I'm now considering going all out on the system I really want.

Again, I've never had a SW tank. I have a 75g and a 40g FW tanks. But I want a big beautiful reef tank with more stocking options than an AIO nano system can give me.

Is the lighting that comes with the deluxe RSR systems sufficient for soft corals? Hard corals? I'll estimating about another $1000 in equipment needed to get things up and running, am I underestimating that amount? Any tips, advice, suggestions greatly appreciated.
