Official Voting Thread for the February PotM

Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:10 AM PST

This is the official voting thread for this month's Picture of the Month contest! (The submission period is over)

This month the topic was Free-for-All. This post has been put into contest mode. That means the point total for each comment is hidden to all but the mods. In addition, the comments will display in a random order each time viewed. The submission with the highest number of votes on 03/01/2019 will be declared the winner.

PLEASE DO NOT DOWNVOTE! In order to get a fair tally on each submission, please refrain from downvoting submissions.

Prizes:

  • Your picture will be the new sidebar image for the sub for a month

  • You will be awarded a special trophy flair. Due to flair constraints, for now, this will replace your current flair, though you will have the option of switching back to your current flair if you choose, you will always have the option to display your 'PotM trophy'

Good luck!

[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby!

Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:23 AM PST

This is a not-so-auto-post for the not-so-weekly question thread.

Here you can ask questions for which you don't want to make a separate thread and it also aggregates the questions, so others can learn.

Please check/read the wiki before posting.

If you want to chat with people to ask questions, there is also the IRC chat for you to ask questions and get answers in real time! If you need help with it, you can always check the IRC wiki page.

I am not a bot. This action was not performed automatically. Automod and I will be having a discussion about what exactly is meant by a "weekly" thread soon.

I love how we name our fish/inverts/etc, as if they can hear us or would have any notion of a name. It's so retartdly human and cute. Just saw a loach called hot dog on here and it made my day. Now, I have to feed Ms Pinchy, she's getting irritable.

Our one surviving Cory “baby” is in with the adults now. (Look by the java fern). How cute are they?!?! My husband named him Norman. I think he might cry if he doesn’t make it. (first time I’ve attempted to save eggs and we ended up with only one fry - but I also only moved 6 eggs)

My 3D printed snail trap worked like a charm!

Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:24 AM PST

In my early aquarium days I bought mystery snails to help with algae and to eat any leftover food. I then learned that mystery snails don't do much for algae and at this point I had a snail infestation. I was going to buy a trap from Amazon but after a simple Google search I found a 3D file for a trap and printed the file at work put it in my tank. This morning I woke up to this trap filled with snails!
