Tank set up for 20 gallon?

Posted: 18 Jan 2020 06:22 PM PST

First 20 gallon is all i can fit and im only having 1 commet goldfish (i think its that one. But its a little skinnier one) i haven't had a goldfish before only betas when i was like 6 but i cant remember it much since it was 10 years ago... but tomorrow im planning on getting a goldfish and a tank along with the filter, rocks/plants, and the substrate. I heard they can choke on the gravel and that part worries me. Are there any other substrates that are good but also in the cheaper range? Also i heard to feed them pellets instead of flakes. How many pellets should you feed them if you feed them twice a day?

Is the fin rot gone?

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 12:13 AM PST

This is my fish Pig. About a week - week n a half ago I finished his (single) treatment of API Fin and Body Cure to treat fin rot on his tail. Afterwards I stuck in a new filter cartridge that had to be changed again a few days later because it quickly got clogged. His tail came out looking better, but still just a bit ragged at the ends. I wasn't sure if I should have given him another treatment or if he just needed more time for the rest of his tail to grow back, his tail has looked pretty much the same for a week, I'm not completely sure if his fin rot is gone. Should I give him another treatment? Please tell me what you all think

Other details: This is a ten gallon tank (I have heard that he is a comet, not a fantail like I originally thought, I know that this tank is too small for a comet, but this is the very best we could do for him, he used to live in a bowl w my gf's mom's who refused to get him anything larger than a bowl to live in, he now lives at my gfs [who lives w two roommates] apartment and this is the largest tank we could get that could fit anywhere)

The temperature was about 73 degrees Fahrenheit, I thought that was a bit hot for him so I turned down the heater to about 69, this was about an hour ago and the water, at least around the thermometer, seems to be the same as of right now)

Also took water tests about an hour and a half ago

pH is about 7.8, I added two tsp of white vinegar to lower it, but I don't know if I should keep doing that seeing as how I did the same two days ago and two days before that (after a 25% water change)

Ammonia is somewhere between 0 and 0.25 ppm

Nitrite and Nitrate are both just about 0 ppm

His tank has been established since about January 2nd

Also he occasionally goes to the top for air, sometimes he can go for at least half an hour to an hour without doing it and that's much better than how he was in the bowl but shouldn't he not have to do that at all? And he's been acting kind of strange, at one point about an hour ago it looked like he had been trying to lay down under one of his decorations but kept floating up a bit so he kept readjusting himself, then for about 15 seconds he swam back and forth at a breakneck speed before going back to doing the same thing, I hope this isn't a swim bladder infection. He's swimming normally right now, but I'm still a bit worried. Please help.

Blue oranda search

Has anyone ordered from liveaquaria? I'm wondering what kind of experience people have had because I'm thinking of adding a blue oranda to my tank. Thanks!

Upgraded to a 75 gallon with lots of green for my fancies! Thinking of adding some kind of grass carpeting.. Otherwise, just waiting to slowly transfer them over once cycling is complete.

Will he ever grow his tail back? I was a bad fish mom before I knew anything about goldfish, and he got severe fin rot. I upgraded these 3 guys to a 75 gallon tank about a month ago, and I was curious if he will make a full recovery or forever have stunted growth.

my attempt at a jikin goldfish from last night

Posted: 18 Jan 2020 10:08 AM PST

Help! JB had a gravel stuck in his mouth and unfortunately had to help him(used a tweezer to get it out). Seems like there's an internal bleeding in his right eye. Any suggestions on how to help him?

Food that won’t turn white goldfish yellow.

Posted: 18 Jan 2020 03:46 PM PST

I feed Repashy super gold and Repashy Soilent green, and now all of my beautiful white goldfish are turning a very annoying shade of yellow.

Does anyone have any recommendations for food that WONT do that? I want my fish to be healthy, but I also hate the dingy color they're turning with the Repashy.

40b two small oranda. 75g Ranchu tank with one peacock tail Thai oranda. Long term cycled tanks, over filtered, 0/0/10 before water change (both tanks are planted). It's not water quality. It's either the finnex lights or the food.

Carpet plants with goldfish?

Posted: 18 Jan 2020 12:37 PM PST

I've never owned goldfish before and I'm currently planning to set up a tank for fancy goldfish. I really like the way planted tanks look with carpet plants, but I've heard goldfish pretty much eat anything they can fit in their mouths. So my question is: are their any varieties of carpet plants I can put in the tank that wouldn't get demolished? Or will the goldfish just get overfed from constantly grazing on the carpet?

I've heard that java moss might work, but if it's better to skip the carpet altogether I figured yall would know.

(Of course I will be including other more goldfish-resistant live plants, but I wanted to know if there was a possibility of carpet working as well)
