Will cherry shrimp be ok without moss to hide in until it grows in? There will be some other plants including root floaters.

I'm moving them to a new tank and leaving their old moss behind as it's riddled with worms and the new tank will have minimal plants and moss until it all grows in. Do shrimp need moss for having babies in? There are some pregnant females.

I picked these up from a fish store today. I didn't watch the guy bag them, so I didn't see this til I got home. I'm guessing this is a horsehair worm? Anyone ever been able to treat them? I was going to try fenbendazole flake food. Luckily these shrimp are still in the bag.

I bought 15 electric blue shrimp, can only spot 3 anymore. Hope they didn't all die.

Beginner - please provide guidance.

I purchased 5 red cherry shrimp on Friday, Nov. 22nd. I drip acclimated them for an hour before transferring them to the tank. I also left the light off for the first day in an effort to make them feel more secure. Two shrimp have died in the last 24 hours. Please help me identify what I am doing wrong!

Info:

Species only tank

10 gallon tank – fully cycled with Dr. Tim's and Stability

HOB filter with a sponge over the intake, adjustable flow on the lowest setting

Moderately planted (crypts, java fern, tiger lotus, bacopa caroliniana, and val)

Fluval stratum

Nicrew light – on 8 hours per day, using the sunrise/sunset setting

72 degrees

One Indian Almond leaf

The following parameters were tested using API Freshwater Testing Kit:

Ammonia – 0 ppm

Nitrite – 0 ppm

Nitrates – 20 ppm

PH – 7

The following parameters were tested using Tetra test strips:

GH – 150

KH – 40

My nitrates were higher than I liked so I did a 15% water change just now.

Both deceased shrimp appeared to be males. Both appeared to be fully intact, no obvious damage; although, one had what looked like a white strap below his head on his back. I will say, I don't have much experience with shrimp, but these shrimp looked very small. Unfortunately, they did have to endure nearly two hours in the car, as I do not have any local stores that sell them.

I'm a big animal lover and I would hate to be the cause of their suffering. Am I doing something wrong? Is it normal to lose a few shrimp at first? Thank you!

Any tips for shrimp breeding?

Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:50 PM PST

Going to my LFS this weekend to pick up some red cherry shrimp, or maybe some blue velvets. I've got a ten gallon planted tank that's been cycled and is ready to go. Was just wondering if there was anything I need to watch out for or be more aware of. Pretty new to shrimp keeping some any tips would be useful as well!
