Shrimp Tank - Aquariums - I got this shrimp as a bonus at my LFS but they didn’t realize it was PERGNANT! Is there anything I can do to increase the survival rate of the offspring?

Our first baby shrimp! Little guy came right out and grabbed a flake! His buddy is eyeing a flake himself :)

Anyone know what's up with this Blue Velvet cherry? It's a kind of clear greenish, blue, with this orange stripe on it's head. Don't mind the gunk on the ground, it's new dwarf hairgrass going through a melt back.

Do you feed your shrimp?

I have a very heavily planted 15g. I'm talking zero visible substrate. I tried feeding shrimp king pellets daily and I'd be lucky if one shrimp even touched it all day. I switched to Bacter AE and fed about 1/10 a scoop daily and all it seemed to do was promote diatoms on my glass. I've gone a week without feeding them anything and they're still constantly full.

I only have about 30 shrimp, but I'm trying to get them to breed so I want them happy and full. Is it possible to have enough plant life to not need to feed or maybe to throw in half a scoop of Bacter AE once a week? What do my fellow plant-and-shrimp-aholics do?

My first time keeping ghost shrimp and most have died. Any suggestions?

Posted: 14 Aug 2019 04:30 PM PDT

I just set up a 5.5 gallon planted tank. It finished cycling 2 weeks ago, so I added a few ghost shrimp on August 1st. On August 8th, I found one dead in the morning. I immediately tested the water with my API kit, and it was 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20-30 nitrate, and 7.6 pH, which seemed fine to me, but I've only ever kept fish and snails.

Today, August 14, I came down in the morning to check on the tank, and another was dead. Just now, in the afternoon, I noticed one swimming upside down and all around the tank. It was starting to turn white and I could see blue streaks inside the body (I assume that was its blood supply). Anyway, it just died and now I am left with one lonely shramp. I just now tested the water and its the same as it was a week ago (0,0,20-30,7.6). I had been doing 33% water changes once a week and feeding with algae wafers every other day.

Any helpful advice would be appreciated!

ETA: I have tried to get my nitrates down, but my tap water is pretty high in nitrates, so I think I am stuck there.

I think the general hardness may be too high still. I have live plants in my tank and this is my first test in 3 days since I filled the tank. What do you guys think?

I got some new shrimp a day or two ago, and one of them has some green stuff under its swimmers. What is it and what can I do?
