Been lurking this sub for 3 years, finally caved in. Just finished my first hardscape, waiting on Dwarf bb tears and hairgrass for dry-start.

Id plant deficiency

Posted: 14 Aug 2019 05:37 PM PDT

Deficiency

Hi all, I've been having a ton of issues with some sort of nutrient deficiency in my small Betta tank.

I have linked a couple of pictures of the two plants with the biggest issues.

I'm currently dosing 2x per week of the easy green nano fertilizer (works out to 3 pumps per dose).

This All started shortly after I added the frogbit. Initially I wasn't dosing any ferts and the frogbit became stunted very quickly. I bought the easy green nano as a sort of one stop dose for the tank.

That seemed to do the trick initially, the frogbit grew pretty well and took over the surface. After about a month, the frogbit started to die off. Then the Java fern.

Eventually I started to see green spot algae on the Java fern. I started dosing flourish phosphate about two weeks ago. But I'm still not seeing any improvement.

Any ideas? I know the easy green stuff does not include iron ferts.

Any tips for a newbie

Posted: 14 Aug 2019 05:28 PM PDT

Ive got some plants coming in this weekend for my first go at a planted tank and was wondering if there were any things I need to know about planting (particularly new plants) in general. Any and all tips welcome, while Im sure mistakes are going to be made I am certainly trying to limit them.

Nitrogen levels all at zero; is my tank cycled?

Posted: 14 Aug 2019 09:42 PM PDT

Hi all,

I have a 10G heavily planted high tech tank. I did a dry start for three weeks; at some point during the dry start, I tested the fluid at the bottom of the tank and it tested pretty high for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Its been flooded for about 6 days now, and ALL of the nitrogen levels (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) keep on reading at 0ppm. Does that mean my plants are consuming the ammonia as quickly as it is formed? Or is it being converted quickly and then consumed by the plants? Or is it simply cycled already?

New 10 gallon Planted Tank

Posted: 14 Aug 2019 05:28 PM PDT

Hi Guys! I'm very new aquariums, especially planted ones. I've been cycling my new 10 gallon tank. I put some plants (Anubias, Wisteria, Moss ball & Crypts) in there last week. I've noticed some of the leaves have this brown-red colouring on them that wasn't there before. Is it algae? If so, how do I get rid of it before I get the fish?
