New to reefing - what are your tips on keeping anemones?

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 08:23 PM PDT

I'm just getting into saltwater (and fishkeeping in general actually) and keeping an anemone is top on my list of priorities. BTAs are nice, but I'm curious about other species like tube anemone, long-tentacle anemone and - I know this is a pipe dream - magnificent anemone. What's your advice on keeping an anemone centred tank?

I'll be running a 40gal display with a sump/fuge (56gal total), with lots of light and flow to keep the nem happy.

I am going to be moving my tank for over 24 hours. Do I need a heater?

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 08:09 PM PDT

I'll be moving my tank to college. I'll have an air stone setup in the bucket the whole time, but I was just wondering if a heater was necessary for this move.

For some background info, I'll be driving about 12 hours and then staying in a hotel overnight. From tear down to tank setup it will be a little over 24 hours. The tank is only 5 gallons, so I'll only be using one 5 gallon bucket to move. Should I use a heater or not? I am guessing I could use a heater during the car ride there since the wattage of the heater is pretty low, and I can obviously plug in the heater at the hotel. Currently I only have zoanthids, a Duncan, a purple brush gorgonian, a blue legged hermit, and a nerite snail.

Glass/acrylic thickness for ATO reservoir

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 11:51 PM PDT

I'm considering building an ATO reservoir because I can't find anything that fits my Nuvo 40 stand at a reasonable price. Any idea of the glass/acrylic thickness I need to aim for for around 4/5 gallons of water? Thanks!

Marble in My Bottle of CaribSea CoralUp?

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 10:07 PM PDT

Hello!

I bought a bottle of CaribSea CoralUp for the first time in a while, and I noticed as I was shaking it that it sounded like there was something solid inside of it. I poured all the contents into a cup, and there was a blue, glass marble in the bottom. Is this normal? I tried googling it but didn't find anything. The bottle was sealed when I bought it, but if it's some kind of weird factory mistake, I obviously don't want to add the product to my tank.

Thanks!

Looking to add a yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp duo. I only have sand in my tank and have read they need larger pieces, what should I add?

Empty Canvas / New to Salt Water Tanks

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 07:27 PM PDT

Hello,

My name is Zane, and I am beginning to build my first saltwater tank. The tank I will be building in is a Aqueon Bow Tank Black 36x16x21 46gal. All I have right now is the Tank and Stand. So any advise on what type of filter, skimmer, etc. to get would be quite helpful. Also design and livestock ideas are also appreciated. I will be posting progress photos.

Does anyone have success with AI Prime HD and long tentacle anemones?

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 05:49 PM PDT

I want to upgrade my light to an AI Prime HD but I only want this if it is good for LTAs. Please let me know, good or bad, your thoughts.

Newbie with a 38G tank

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 04:55 PM PDT

My daughters are 6 and 4 and have convinced me to get saltwater tank. I bought an Aqueon 38G tank kit with a QuietFlow30 filter, heater, fluorescent hood. I picked up the Microbe-Lift Water Conditioner, an aquatic refractometer, CaribSea Bahamas Oolite x 40 lbs, and Instant Ocean Sea Salt to get started. Any beginners advice would be accepted and wish me luck!

MarineDepot and shipping tanks

Posted: 13 Aug 2019 04:33 PM PDT

I plan on getting a Innovative Marine 30L EXT from MarineDepot but I'm worried about the tank breaking during shipping, due to the fact it's a long tank and the external overflow. I was wondering if anybody had had experience with MarineDepot with ordering tanks.

I posted this Nero 5 guard design earlier, it's still free to download on Thingiverse but I'm proud to say it's available at retail now as well!
