A beginning

Posted: 10 Aug 2019 08:21 PM PDT

I'm looking to start a planted tank and have some questions.

  1. I want to put Khuli loaches in the tank but don't know if they will be comfortable in it as opposed to a soft substrate. I'm talking about a carpet plant.

  2. How necessary is a CO2 pump for the plants? I'm kinda on a budget

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Guppy tank filling in nicely. Found what looks like an Sagittaria sagittifolia in a rice paddy by my house. Tossed her in, left of center. Arrowheads coming out of the water.

PLANT BATTLE ROYALE (water wisteria vs water sprite)

Posted: 10 Aug 2019 07:38 PM PDT

Okay so backstory. I've wanted to make my tank planted for a while now, but never found the right one. I've tried a few times in the past but the marimo moss ball is the only one that has survived to this day and is currently chilling in a 10g. But so this time I was gonna do it right and decided to get some hornwort. And my LFS doesn't have hornwort... so new plan(t) as it turns out they have both water wisteria and water sprite. I do research and find they are both similar enough. But I couldn't decide which as they both had quality's I liked. So I though of an idea. PLANT BATTLE ROYALE! 2 PLANTS GO IN HOPEFULLY TWO COME OUT! So the plan is to get both, plant them on opposite sides of the tank, wait 1-2 months and whoever survives will have something happen. Or both survive and something also happens. I'll use fertilizer once a week after water changes. Now is there anything I should specifically know about either of these plants that may make them a no-go for a first time plant person or anything else? And is this a good idea or is this a horrible idea? And what fertilizer should I use? Any help is appreciated. Current fish in tank are male guppies, chain loaches, a bristlenose pleco, and amano shrimp. Tanks receives lots of light and has moderate water movement and is a 29g.
