My aqueon 11g frameless cherry set up

Ring of death on a new cherry? I've had these guys for a few days, I've noticed a few molted shells and then saw this one has the ring. Is there a way I can fix it?

Could anyone tell me how my Yellow cherry shrimp developed this golden line on its back? It wasn't like this 2 week's ago.

Shrimp on the right is the size of every other cherry shrimp I've ever owned, the one on the left is Mega Cherry

I've heard that hobs will suck up any shrimp babies but what if i cut a sponge and put it over the intake of the hob?

Is my amano shrimp okay? I've had him/her for about a month now and he's turning blue. I read that this can be a sign of stress.

Advice on tank cycling

Posted: 10 Aug 2019 06:49 PM PDT

Hi all

I'm planning to start my first shrimp tank for neos and have been cycling my tank for about two weeks.

Setup is a 9 gal tank with inert substrate, Seiryu rocks and Christmas moss.

Current water parameters: - Ammonia: Close to 0 (came down from about 0.5) - Nitrites: 5.0 (been high for past week) - Nitrates: 5.0 (hovering around same level for past week) - pH: 7.2

A week ago, I added FritzZyme 7 on advice of a local shop, and also one Nerite snail to create some ammonia because the cycle seemed rather slow-moving.

Right now, it seems to me (note: newbie here) that there is not much ammonia in the system, but what is there is being converted successfully to nitrites. However, the nitrite to nitrate part of the cycle seems stalled.

FritzZyme's website suggests that nitrifying bacteria require trace amounts of phosphates to get going. I might not have any phosphates in my tank as I didn't add any mineral balls which seem common for shrimp tanks.

Question: - Should I add a mineral ball or some fish flakes to introduce some phosphates? - Is the low ammonia levels going to starve my ammonia bacteria, or do I need to introduce more ammonia? - Or should I just leave the tank be and give it more time to cycle?

Thanks much for any advice.

College Moving Help?

Posted: 10 Aug 2019 12:49 PM PDT

Hey you guys! Long-time lurker here but I wanted some input. I am planning on taking a 5.5 gallon that I established and stocked during the very beginning of summer. It has 8 ghost shrimp, two of whom are pregnant and some plants (dwarf hair grass, unknown plant). My only issue is that I travel one day, go to orientation another day, and move in the third day in the am. Would it be smart to take my shrimp to college? If so are there any recommendations as to how to keep them alive while I travel? I figured someone has done this before here so I thought I'd open it up to the experts. Thank you for all the help in advance.

My first ever shrimp came yesterday(5 crs 5 blue pearl) but at least 4(probably more) seem to have died overnight, why? I made sure all of the chemical levels were perfect, I got them good plants. What did I do wrong????
