Jarrariums - How To Clean/Restore My Jarrarium?

How To Clean/Restore My Jarrarium?

I've been thinking about turning this tank into a jarrarium. It's about 2.5 gallons and I don't want to put any fish, snails, or shrimp in it. Does anyone have any suggestions for plants?

Do I need to cycle my jarrarium right away?

I'm preparing to start a 1.5 gal and I'm not sure when or if I want critters in my jarrarium. Do I need to add pond water/pond substrate/live rock if I'll only have plants in there? Can I add these things at a later time (w/out harming plants) if I decide to add shrimp and/or snails? Any insight or advice is appreciated!
