I recently purchased a home that has a small pond/stream in the backyard with a waterfall. I got some koi a few months ago, and have been trying to research how to make the best with the system I have. I've added an aerator, some pond plants, bioballs and have been doing water changes (w/dechlorinator)/filter cleanings every 1-2 weeks.
Can anyone make any suggestions for the filter setup, as I'm not too familiar with it. It looks like I need to add some sort of platform so the filters sit above the outlet pipe at the bottom of the waterfall container. There's a lip on the sides near the bottom, so there clearly used to be something keeping the filters raised at one point. Also, the waterfall container was full with tons of lava rock. I power washed the lava rock, but don't know if I should just buy new lava rock or be doing something else to improve the setup. Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm a noob when it comes to pond setups.
