Tldr: found a filthy tank mid day in Texas with this guy still in it. Water was filthy and near boiling. Got him all new stuff and he's adjust well. So far I believe he's a common pleco but with some interesting colors. Am i right?

Rant at my job

So I work at a store. Chain pet store. Let's call it smart pet. Smart pet has 0 training for aquatics. They just give you a sheet to test water and tell you to read tags.

Luckily I have lots of experience with fish so I'm able to educate people about the nitrogen cycle and teach them how to do a fish in cycle or a fishless cycle.

But my manager doesn't know jack about fish and told someone about the inch per gallon rule and let someone buy 5 one inch goldfish to put into a 5 gallon tank.

Needless to say I had some really upset customers the next day when she went on her miseducation spree.

Then the next day someone comes in and said they bought 2 tetras and they died within an hour. I talked to them and apparently they were told to change the hardness of the water by this manager and of course the PH fluctuated and the fish died.

Now we are dealing with a massive fungal infection and because it's a central system it's spreading. I'm boiling gravel and trying to keep things under control but dear god, smart pet needs to have a training program.
