2nd day of new shrimps!

Posted: 28 Jul 2019 01:57 AM PDT

I'm loving my new shrimps, thanks for all the advice this Sub has given me. :)

When I got up this morning to feed them, one of the shrimps was dead. Ofc I removed it and did a full water test, nothing out of the ordinary. All the other shrimps are not displaying any strange behaviour.

I remember reading that often they will die sometimes when first added to tank no matter what. Is this just a case of that ? Or should i be more worried.

Shrimp death need advice.

Posted: 27 Jul 2019 10:01 PM PDT

It's been more than a week since all my shrimps died due to adding a new plant to my tank. I've been doing daily water changes in hope to remove the pesticide. I added one shrimp to test if the water is safe and all of them keeps on dying.

Almost time for shrimp!

Purchasing my first batch of blue dream shrimp on Friday! Any recommendations on where to purchase online? I have a lfs or two nearby who sell them, but the one has ridiculous prices ($10 each!) and never has any in stock, and the other one was a little iffy.

Does anyone know what type of shrimp this is?

Posted: 27 Jul 2019 09:20 PM PDT

Eggs or fungus? Spotted this on one of my new shrimp and it doesn't look like eggs to me but I'm not sure.

Just starting. How do I know when to add neocaridina shrimp? (parameters inside)

Posted: 27 Jul 2019 07:08 PM PDT

Just set up my 5 gal first tank 3 days ago. Bought some plants and threw them in (seems like they came with some snails, which I'm not happy about). Checked my parameters and they are as follows:

pH: 6.8-7.0 (hard to read the color)

ammonia: 0.5

nitrate: between 0 and 5

nitrite: 0.25

kH: 2

gH:4

Different sites list different parameters for neocaridina. Some sites seem to think mine are okay for shrimp, but I have a hard time believing that because I thought I had to cycle for a while?

Help, best nano tank mates for shrimp?

Posted: 27 Jul 2019 06:58 PM PDT

This is more of a general question rather than specific to any one type of shrimp. I have a friend who had guppies in a ten gallon with some red cherry shrimp and eventually discovered that the shrimp wouldn't breed because they didn't feel "safe" with the guppies. I know breeders of shrimp typically keep species only tanks to breed, but is there any small fish that would be best to have with shrimp that won't stress them out at all? I haven't been able to find much reading on this topic but I've been considering ember tetras, endler's, or maybe emerald dwarf rasboras to have in a ten gallon with some shrimp. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Can a HOB filter with a net over it still suck up baby shrimp?

Posted: 27 Jul 2019 06:30 PM PDT

I've been running my HOB filter with a net over the intake to prevent baby shrimp from being sucked in. It's a standard aquarium net and I don't think that any could be sucked in, but two females have laid eggs and I've only seen two baby use after looking for a fairly long time. Could some of the babies have been sucked in? And if so, is there anything i can do about it?
