How to spot a pro vs. amateur shrimp keeper:

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 09:09 PM PDT

Q: what are your water parameters?

Amateur #1: All my neon tetras are doing good. I have pretty good tap water. Ph is on the high side and my water is slightly hard

Amateur #2: Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, niritate .5, ph 7.6

Amateur #3: My water is fine

Pro: PH 6.4, GH 4, KH 0-1, SaltyShrimp GH+ TDS 80-100

Is 180-200ppm GH to high for Cherry shrimp?

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 09:49 PM PDT

Hi! Soon to be shrimp owner

Tested my water and my gh is coming in at around 180ppm is that to high for cherry shrimp?

My kh is around 80 which is good, but I'm afraid if I use a water softener it will bring the kh down to low

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Best way to view liquid parameter checks?

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 08:25 PM PDT

When checking parameters with liquid tests, what light is best to check it under? To me, the flourecent/LED light gives a lower reading than a traditional yellow lightbulb.

What grade do you think these are?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but when a ghost shrimp goes all white, they’re getting ready to molt, right?

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 12:10 PM PDT

I’m new to shrimp keeping, and I want to make sure my new additions are eating.

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 01:09 PM PDT

I have had shrimp for about a month in my betta tank. I'm not sure exactly what shrimp eat, but I know they like his betta pellets. But I'm not sure if all of them are eating. I also don't want to over feed my tank. How do I make sure they eat or is this even is an issue.

There's only three ghost shrimp in there since I wasn't sure if Mr. Fish would eat them. He hasn't, and there's lots of hiding places and four nice plants. I really like these guys and might get more

Favorite foods to feed?

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 05:54 PM PDT

WELL, I'm doing up an order on a batch of plants and I'm going to throw in an order for a prepared food since I'm running low on algae-wafers. They were the Ocean Nutrition Shrimp Wafers (they also work great for otos oh my gosh) and I'd like to spring for a different food. Everyone also gets a touch of the Fluval Bug Bites since extra protien and chitin and fiber since the betta in the other tank loves them, that could be cut out though. I was thinking Repashy, Dennerle, or..... breaking down and going for MK-Breed Cheeseburger. Any thoughts? Other suggestions for my weird mislabelled Neos food stuffs? I was also thinking of springing for GlasGarten's ShrimpFit+ but I just don't know. It seems like a good preventative idea to offer with regular food.
