Cycling Walstad Aquarium Help!

I've been out of the hobby for years, but have been interested in Walstad aquariums for the past 6 months, so I decided to give it a shot! I am now two weeks into a fishless cycle, and have had substantial plant growth and snails, but I have now been getting some very extreme readings when testing the water...

gH is 120ppm, kH is 0ppm, pH has dropped to ~6.5, Nitrate and nitrites are off the charts.

Is this just part of the cycle/from everything being released from the soil (generic potting soil underneath gravel)? Or do I need to do some massive water changes?

Pic is from about a week ago

I was able to successfully swap out the gravel for sand! Only took what felt like a dozen water changes with all the dirt that came up from removing the cap. Will have Corydoras soon for the first time!

Just pulled the trigger on a GLA CO2 system. Will it fit my 1/2 inch hose?

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 09:12 PM PDT

After spending a couple months thinking about it, wanting it, dreaming about it, I finally ordered a CO2 regulator. Went with the GLA Gro Paintball regulator since it was only about twice the cost of the "cheap ones" that a lot of people have had break in 6 months to a year, and everyone says GLA will last and preform well for years. And I chose the paintball specific one because I don't see myself having room for a larger tank for the next few years at least so why mess around with an adapter, and potentially having my gauges sideways or something?

Anyway to my actual question: I also ordered the 12/16 inline atomizer and I was wondering if this will work with the tubing on my tank that is 1/2 inch or if I need to order an actual 12/16 tube?
