Crayfish in Northern-Central Alabama, Part 2

Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:20 PM PDT

Well, after having tried a few times, I have not caught a single crayfish out of three different creeks I have tried trapping in the Springville area. One of these was Big Canoe Creek, which seems to be such a diverse creek that you would think that I would have caught something (I saw a freaking spotted gar while I was out retrieving the trap and I didn't even know they were around here). I really am not sure where I am going wrong with the traps, as I was using cat food and placing the traps near rocky areas in slow moving water. Does anyone have any advice for catching crayfish at this point that may help out? I don't care at this point whether I have to use a trap or go flipping rocks, I just need some more pointers as to what to look for and what to do in order to catch one to put in a tank.

I have never caught a crayfish before these attempts and everyone talks like they are just everywhere in every creek whenever I ask for advice. They say just go out to a stream or a ditch and flip a rock, but this has not yielded any results yet either. I don't know if I am just looking in the wrong places or what.

Thanks again for any help!

My yabby is acting strange

Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:10 AM PDT

This is a long shot but, I only purchased my yabby 4 days ago. At the pet shop he was in a tank with yabbies much bigger than him. They bullied him, and snapped his claws off. Since I've had him, he hasn't been swimming around, just hiding. I've had my water tested, everything is fine. He moulted his shell 2 days ago, and since then he's been really lethargic? He keeps falling onto his side and his back and struggling to get back up? I'm doing all the research I can but I am at a loss and I can't find any information. He's not interested in food either, please help.
