My orange rillis surprisingly had babies survive the wrath of my betta! Here’s a baby taking shelter in some mini Christmas moss

This is the shrimp’s saddle? Correct?

They called her a Low Grade Green Jade. I think she’s a beautiful Green Rili.

Was directed here from r/aquariums. Here's my desktop shrimp tank I set up a month ago. I love watching these little guys.

Tiny scale RO solution?

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:51 PM PDT

Howdy,

I'm preparing my 5 gallon shrimp tank and got in to water testing today. Still no shrimp, just a nerite snail poop factory.

It turns out my pH, GH, and KH are way out of range (limestone well water). I did a water change with some store bought distilled water to get the parameters in spec.

In the long run, would it be cheaper just to keep diluting my tap water with distilled water from the store ($1 per gallon), or is there some kind of RO pitcher that would work for this?

Thanks!

Found my first baby shrimplet! It’s hard to spot but it’s in the riccia fluitans slightly to the left. Found it when I was clipping and replanting my plants for the first time!

Ghost shrimp dying need help

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:28 PM PDT

I have a fairly large colony of ghost shrimp in my heavily planted 10 gallon. The other day I start my routine water change of about 25% and I add 2 broiled cucumber slices. I did move some rocks around causing a lot of floating debris. The next morning I wake up and notice odd behavior from my snails. I think nothing of it and turn on the light and Injected C02. When I came home for my lunch break the water has turned cloudy so I changed out the bio filter and put carbon in it. When I came home at night there were 2 dead shrimp. I checked the water parameters and found my nitrates spiked over night. So I did another 25% water change and I'm hoping for the best.

My questions are What did I do wrong? Is active carbon and good idea to regulate pH? Could moving around rocks caused the nitrate spike? How do I save the survivors?

What would be a reason to breed shrimp.

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:21 PM PDT

I'm really interested in breeding shrimp but I don't know what I would do with all of them. I don't have a lfs that I could sell them to and I don't want to kill them. Is there any other way I could sell them or anything I could do with the shrimp?

Shrimp Dying

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 07:44 PM PDT

I've had my shrimp for a few months now, but I've lost 2 in the last 2 days, and I don't know why. I know these numbers aren't extreme, but I wanna get to the root of the problem before I lose more. I tested the water parameters and they're all fine (I can post specific numbers if y'all want, I know y'all like them, but trust me, they're fine, it's just more work to get them again), nothing's changed dramatically as of late. However, I have been in and out of town and have neglected water changes over the past few weeks, so that may be the reason. I have also run out of Indian almond leaves (I've got some arriving tomorrow though). Could lack of such a staple food source cause these shrimp to starve? I'm just looking for advice from more experienced shrimp keepers, thanks guys.

New Red Cherries dying, need help!

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 03:33 PM PDT

I started my first shrimp tank, a 3 gallon with Monte Carlo carpeting and DIY CO2. The 13 Red Cherries arrived and I drip acclimated them. They all seemed fine for the first 2 days, but then I had 2 fatalities on day 3. Looks like 2 more died today on day 5, and there might be more dead because I can only visibly locate 5 of them

Water parameters are fine: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 5-10 ppm Nitrate, PH ~6.8, TDS 250.

Is high (powerful) lighting an issue with RCS? I have a Finnex Fugeray Planted+ that is great for the Monte Carlo, but maybe too much for the shrimps?

Any other ideas? Maybe the CO2 levels fluctuating too much due to turning it on/off while I am home (otherwise I risk gassing them all to death).

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Best way to make Fluval 206 canister shrimp safe?

I've looked at the foam intake covers but they are all made for smaller filters. Best way to use foam with 206?
