The best $8 I’ve spent on my tank is this snail and his friends.

Clownfish upside down

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 03:08 PM PDT

I got a pair of Picasso clowns yesterday and they haven't left each other they always hangout but one stays upside down at the top. I've only had them for 24 hours but they are always near the top.

I thought it was swim bladder but if I feed them he flips to normal orientation and they act normal for a while then he goes back up there. If I touch them he swims off like normal and acts totally fine then goes upside on the top rim again. It's a 16 gal biocube 8.2/0/0/5-10 nitrate

It literally seems as though he's hosting the top rim lol. I've kept clownfish in this tank for about a year now but my old one was an asshole and wouldn't let another in so I swapped him out to get this pair and this is happening.

He doesn't seem like he has an air pocket as he can swim entirely normally if I touch him

Murderer on the loose. Advice asked.

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 12:31 PM PDT

So. Last thursday i picked up a pistol shrimp and a blue dotted watchman goby. After adding them to the tank they each went into a different spot. The goby in the back of the tank in tight spaces of rock. And the shrimp in the front below 1 freestanding rock. The goby would occasionally come out of the back and the shrimp havent been out of his spot when im with the tank. Just a moment ago i saw 1 of my sand snails in the entrence of the shrimp. Im lifting the rock and seeing the goby dead.

I would like to keep a couple like em, but how can i prevent this from happening again?

Besides the snails there are only 3 chromis and some simple corals. So i know it was the shrimp.

Coralline algae: how to grow

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 05:09 PM PDT

First time posting, recommended from r/aquarium. I currently have a FOWLR tank and looking to expand into the reef world. I think that the best way to start is with some coralline. Any ways to perhaps to speed up the process?

Reefbot/KH Director/Alkatronic experiences with noise?

Posted: 16 Apr 2019 01:41 PM PDT

I'm mostly interested in experiences with the reefbot since it is new. My aquarium is not far from our bedroom so noise is a huge issue for me. I have heard reviews of the Alkatronic to be very noisy. I'm on vacation and the biggest concern for me right now is my KH. So I'm looking into automating alk testing.

For those with a reefbot, how is the noise? Where does the testing reagants go afterwards? How far can it pump? Would I be able to set it up in say, a basement or attic a couple dozen feet away?

Same questions for KH Director and Alkatronic (if people know of a way to keep it quiet)

Thanks!
