Nassarius snails and eating

Posted: 15 Apr 2019 11:35 PM PDT

Anyone ever concerned there nassarius snails aren't getting any food. Ive 5 in my tank but I'm only feeding my 2 clowns and skunk shrimp a tiny bit off a frozen cube each day and they come out every time i add food to the tank and just scoot around for a minute or two before burying themselves again. I dont ever see any food sitting on the sand bed for them in this time, if i turn my my wavemaker off it just floats mid tank and if i leave it on it shoots around too quick for them anyway

What is the longest you have gone without seeing a certain fish, only for it to show up again alive? This guy just made it 5 weeks... Almost had bought another one to replace the loss.

Can't take it anymore... I want a dorm tank!

Posted: 15 Apr 2019 08:44 PM PDT

Hey guys,

So in Highschool I had a 90g FOWLR tank with a few soft corals. Needless to say, I love aquariums (originally came to college for Marine Biology). Lately, I haven't been feeling well mentally, and I can't help but think of owning a small reef tank.

Obviously it would be a low-budget, low-maintenance tank. The only corals I'm interested in are:

  • Mushrooms
  • GSP
  • Xenia
  • Zoas
  • Green leather coral.

Other than that, a Clarkii clown and a shrimp to help clean up.

I was thinking of a Fluval Evo 13.5? I already have live rock from my previous tank. Probably have an extra heater lying around and a refractometer.

So would it be worth it? Monthly 5gallon water change perhaps? There is a fish store about 1km away from campus, so I could easily walk there. I just think it would be amazing to have a small aquarium filled with softcorals, under a blu-ish light would look so relaxing.

Only thing I'm really worried about is maintenance, and cost. But considering I want to watch these corals grow, I won't be buying very many things.

So what was your experience like doing this? Is the Fluval a good All-in-one? Does this sound feasible?

Thanks guys, in the meantime I'll be watching fish center live.

For those who have experiences with either - looking to run potentially a variety of medias. Which would you recommend, Reefers of Reddit?

Looking for chiller for new nano

Posted: 15 Apr 2019 06:27 PM PDT

Hey ya'll, I'm setting up a 28 gallon nanocube and I'm in the market for a chiller. I was thinking 1/10 hp so if I eventually wanted a modest upgrade it would suffice. Anyhoo, was wondering if anyone had any personal recommendations and could point me to site that has reasonable prices.

Besides set up, how much more maintenance is there for a saltwater tank, compared to a freshwater one?
