I am definitely the type of person who loves diving headfirst into the minutiae of a new hobby, especially when there is a deep well of scientific background to absorb and apply. I know if I started keeping reef tanks, I would be broke so fast!

Looking at your setups is the prophylaxis I need to avoid dropping all my money on a box of salty water filled with expensive pets. :0

How do you say goodbye?

Maybe this isn't the place for downer questions. And maybe most people don't get attached to their fish like I do...

I have a Tang that I've had for 6 years. I don't want to get too much into what's happening, but I've been fighting the symptoms for weeks with her, and long story short the writing is on the wall.

She, my foxface and my two clowns were my first four fish. And she is the first of them I'm going to lose. (The entire rest of the tank is ok btw.)

She's still swimming and trying so hard... But she just can no longer eat. She seems happy and normal but she's wasting away... I don't know if she hurt her jaw, or what. I treated for infections, parasites. Tried every kind of food. Talked to 4 different lfs owners. Checked every parameter. Water changes. Removed filters.I have no actual fish veterinarian in my state otherwise I'd be there.

I feel like a failure. I do love my fish and I feel so helpless and hopeless. I have and will yet shed more tears over this.

Am I the only one who feels like this? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Edit: Thank you all for the kind words. I really needed that. It doesn't make it easier to say goodbye. But I'm glad to know you guys are out there too. Much love.
