Dry vs Water Jarrariums.

Sorry I'm pretty new to this stuff and I was wondering what the difference between a non-water filled jarrarium vs one fill with water is? Does it depend on the plants inside? Also what are the differences in maintaining and creating one?

Clams?

I just started my first jarrarium today! I sourced all of my materials from a nearby lake, but couldn't find any snails. Instead, i found some small freshwater clams.

Here are my questions, and I'd love some help answering them from some of you who are more experienced:

Will freshwater clams survive in a small (1 liter) jarrarium? The habitat also hosts a moss on the "surface" and some scummy stuff that was on the rocks I found.
If they will, how many should occupy a volume of 1 liter? I don't want to over-crowd the little dudes :D
