Out of curiosity, how do you prepare your gel foods? I’m always looking for new ways of doing things.

Is an algae covered rock like this good for my tank?

Goldfish and Betta. Help!

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:05 PM PDT

So I just got a Betta fish today, and I really didn't want it. If you've read my other posts, you'd know that I have a tank with platies, zebra danios, shrimp, snails, and a goldfish. I am still working on the pond for my little goldfish (his name is Roy btw, my sister just named him lol), and suddenly some lady that my mom knows hands me a Betta fish and says "here, it was in my bowl and nobody wanted it anymore so take it". I tried telling her no, but she left it in my house in a small cup and told me it'd make a good decoration (excuse me, fish aren't decorations lady -.-).

Now normally this wouldn't be a problem and I would've happily adopted the little dude. I usually have a nice quarantine tank and would've used that in a perfect world. However, my quarantine tank broke 2 days ago when my mom had a birthday party and some little kids decided to play with it. I was planning on buying a new tank this week once I finished up my school projects, and then cycling it. However, now I'm freaking out and am in a bind. I have no where to put this Betta fish except my main tank (75 gallons). I already tried asking everyone I know if they wanted a Betta, but most just told me they'd put it in their vase at home so I refused to hand it to them. I slowly raised my temperature to 77 degrees Fahrenheit in order to give my fish time to adjust to the new temperature, and decided to put the Betta in there (yes I know, stupid, stupid, stupid since idk what type of illnesses it can have/introduce).

My main concern is, what will this do to my poor little goldfish? Can he be okay in that temperature for a few days? I'm going to go buy a new tank tomorrow as soon as I get out of lecture, but I'm concerned about the temperature as I try to quickly cycle that new tank. Do you think this will hurt him? If needed, I'll take the Betta to a pet store, but nothing is open right now and all the pet stores in my area would probably refuse him or put him back in a little cup. Disease wise I'm not too very concerned since the Betta was apparently in a 4 gallon and was active, but I'll be on the lookout for anything. I'm just worried about my goldfish. Do you all think he'll be okay for a day or two with that temperature?

Edit: So I literally thought of putting the Betta in a tub as soon as I posted this. Any of you deal with Bettas before? Do you think he'd be okay without a heater? My heater didn't make it either (from the quarantine tank). My filter did, and I'll be using the air stones/bubblers, but will he die without a heater? I feel so unprepared since I'm scrambling around fixing the tub, and feel like I'm failing this poor guy already.

Donkey may pass away very soon.

Hey, guys, I posted about my Goldfish, Donkey a couple time. He broke his tail fin and it got infected. I purchased a duo of medications and a binding agent for food (Metroplex, Kanaplex & Focus) so I could use the Kanaplex on him and have Metroplex if I needed it another time. I got the medications in on the 25th, but there was no Kanaplex. They sent me 2 Metroplex and 1 Focus... I got Kanaplex ordered on the 26th, but it's not scheduled to arrive until May 9th. He hasn't eaten and has been gasping all day in a dark corner in the tank all day, so I fear he may not make it through even the night. I got a lot of messages, mostly about how cute and "bubbly" he is and I want everyone to know that he is my baby and he may be just a fish to some, but he brought me great joy and I love him so much. Thank you to everyone who complimented him and who supported him when he first broke his tail. I appreciate it so much.
