Issue with EcoTech return pump and battery power

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 01:03 PM PDT

10 months ago I built myself a 150 Gallon Aquarium, bought basically everything equipment wise from Reef supplies/ EcoTech. The tank is plumbed through the wall with the eshopps 30 sump. From the sump to the overflow box there's a 5 foot difference. I plumbed with 1 inch PVC pipe to and from the tank to make sure I could handle a ton of flow back and forth. I have Clear Check valves so I can see water is flowing and how fast

I bought the Vectra M1 pump, with 2000 GPH flow and the ability to handle 21.5' of head pressure. It works great while powered on.

After a couple power outages I got the backup battery and the adapter to run the pump, so I wouldn't lose anything from an outage

Here's the issue, the pump cant push the water on backup battery. I get that the battery doesn't give the pump the same power, I was just really disappointed it couldn't push water up 5 feet with 1 inch tubing

So I said fine, I'll re plumb down to half an inch. Still didn't work

Finally I plumbed a 1/4 tube off the 1/2 pipe just below my check valve, so the water would only go up the small tube on limited power.

Still nothing ... the pump pushes, I can hear air coming from the tube. It gets about half way up and then stops. There's no siphon on this 1/4 pipe, so realistically it can't push 5 feet of water in the smallest tube I can find. After all this messing around and frustration I contact ecotech themselves

After about 2 weeks of being told "oh it's a calibration problem" they finally gave up contacting me and basically said buy a more powerful pump because it can't push the water. Nothing they can do for me. Not even let me upgrade to the bigger pump and return the current one

Needless to say I'm pretty pissed about this. I've been recalibrating the pump since I got it, trying new settings and whatnot. And no where on their site or Manuel did it say the pump + battery backup is basically useless on battery power with any sort of head pressure.

I'm at a loss for where to go from here. Just incredibly disappointed with the pump and ecotech

Does anyone have any advice about what I could do from here? Or any similar problems they've had with ecotech? I researched the equipment for weeks before getting it. I'm very particular. Hadn't expected this at all
