Posted: 17 Apr 2019 03:00 PM PDT Recently some higher-ups at a store I work at decided we needed more goldfish. We had no room for more goldfish, and several questionable decisions later we end up with some fancy goldfish in with around a 13" koi. The koi must have thought it was lunchtime, because he went to town. One of his victims was a black moor goldfish that had its left eye torn out. I tried to help by placing him into another tank with smaller fish, but other small goldfish started it suck on his eye socket. He was pouring blood and I was fairly confident he would die, so I took him home and put him in a 10G to let him pass without being eaten on or put into a freezer for euthenization. Fast forward 3 days and here I am. He is going alright, but he isn't eating and is easily pulled by his filter's current. I lowered the suction setting of the filter to make it easier on him, but he still won't take food. I know this is natural; an incredibly stressed animal usually won't eat. My question is this: what are some recommendation on getting this guy to eat and live? Is there any fish antibiotics/pain killer for his open eye socket? Is there a preferred food for goldfish with sight impairments? I'd really appreciate any help and I'm sure my fish friend would also. [link] [comments]

Goldfish only eat sinking pellets Posted: 17 Apr 2019 10:59 AM PDT I have two goldfish and have been feeding them Omega One goldfish pellets for about a year. I recently ran out and bought Tetra pellets which float on the top. However, my fish aren't eating the floating food. They don't seem to pay attention to food on the top of the tank. Any suggestions? Should I just switch back to the other pellets? I thought floating would be better because less waste at the bottom of the tank. [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Apr 2019 07:15 AM PDT So I currently have a 75 gallon planted tank with one younger (1.5-2 inches) black moor. I recently bought a calico butterfly tail goldfish online. She's bigger, maybe 2.5-3 inches and she also has ginormous bulging eyes, so I believe she is probably older also. My new butterfly tail has gone through a 2 week quarantine and I just introduced her to my tank last night. My tank used to have 2 shubunkins also with the black mood and there was no issues, they where moved out to our small yard pond about a month ago. When I introduced my new fish to the tank, my black moor has regularly chased the new fish around the tank. He tends to kinda push the new fish from behind. I'm just worried that my new fish could accidentally injure or stress my new fish. How long will this behavior last? I am assuming my old fish is just excited to have a friend again and is simply over excited. Both are eating fine and swimming all over. Does this behavior stress my new fish, or is it natural instincts and both fish are "understanding" the situation? [link] [comments] |
