Is it possible to create a self sustaining terrarium with hydroponics (plant) growing above it? Posted: 17 Apr 2019 05:10 PM PDT Pretty much the title. Really interested in this topic but can't find anything on it. So far I know shrimp eat algae, the fish eat the shrimp, and the plants eat the poop. Please lead me in the right direction :s [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Apr 2019 06:16 PM PDT I've noticed the trend is now towards neocaridinia and caridinia species. Anyone keep any macrobrachium shrimp? [link] [comments]

Failed molt on one shrimp, but others are successful? Posted: 17 Apr 2019 11:42 AM PDT I just got 5 beautiful RCS from my LFS a couple days ago. Within 2 days, 2 of the 5 cherry shrimp molted and I saw the molt. One of the three remaining shrimp that didn't molt has a white line going across its abdomen. Doing enough research I found out its a failed molt. So my question is, why was there 2 shrimp that had a successful molt, while 1 of them didn't?. Is this common or is this a water quality issue? Here are my parameters: pH - 7.1 GH - 6 KH - 5 [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Apr 2019 01:53 PM PDT Hi, I am a beginner in this. I want to have Red Cherry Shrimps. Is a Tetra AquaArt tank of 20l good for starting? [link] [comments]

Serial shrimp murderer seeking redemption Posted: 17 Apr 2019 08:49 AM PDT Hey all, I've tried to keep RCS on a few different instances at this point, and by now I estimate I've probably killed almost 100. Each time I learn something new, but this last time has got me stumped as to why they're dying. One of my coworkers has a shrimp tank that he keeps at his desk. This inspired me to try to set up one of my own. I brought in a 4 gallon cube and scaped it with black sand, a few rocks, and some driftwood, and planted with trimmings from my home tank. My coworker has more shrimp than he knows what to do with, so he generously gave me about 30. Over the last two weeks, they've all died one-by-one. I'm at an absolute loss as to why. I've tested water, done water changes, pulled out the driftwood, something in my tank is killing my shrimp. The kicker is, my coworker doesn't do any of this stuff! He doesn't test the water, he doesn't remineralize, he doesn't even have a heater! He just tops off the water when it gets low and feeds them a few times a week. I figured with us being in the same office, the acclimation would be easier for the shrimps, as the water quality would be similar. But that's clearly not the case. My coworker has generously offered to help me seed my tank again, but I need to figure out why the shrimps are dying first. I'd appreciate any advice! Last time I tested, I had 6 dgh and 4 dkh (I think, going off memory) 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, nitrate showed elevated but I learned my kit was expired so I don't know what the nitrates are. I don't see any reason they'd be elevated. I've dosed Seachem Advance and Seachem Flourish on and off to get my plants going, but I've checked and found they're safe for inverts. I use Seachem Prime to dechlorinate and Seachem Stability to help start the cycle. Shrimp deaths have followed sluggish behavior (not moving, shooting off when poked with tweezers, then landing on back), occasional shell "wings" that look like a failed molt, but there have been regular molts (I see the skeletons on the bottom of the tank) TL;DR: 6dgh/4dkh(ish), 0ppmNH3, 0ppm NO2, 10(?)ppmNO3 Shrimp dying, molts occur, occasional deaths with shell "wings" on their back EDIT: Here's a skrimp I spotted looking like it was having molt issues. Posted: 17 Apr 2019 02:22 PM PDT I have had 8 Red Cherry shrimp in a 5.5 gallon for about a week and a half, I have had 2 deaths and need some help with my water. I have tap water at 70 ppm TDS and the tank is at 100 ppm TDS PH 7.6 Amonia 0 Nitrites 0 KH 89.5 (5 drops) GH 107.4 (6 drops) I would like to do a gallon water change, but I know my TDS is lower than what it should be and I don't want to kill my remaining shrimp. Should I be using my tap water with a supplement to bring it up to 150? [link] [comments]

Worried about my berried shrimp Posted: 17 Apr 2019 06:18 AM PDT Hi all, I need some advice with one of my shrimpo's. I have a Bloody Mary tank and the params were a bit off a while ago (I think) and one of them had a failed molt. It got quite deformed after that (arched back and white line of death), but remained living. It has since become berried and then tried to molt again. The head portion of the molt was stuck on so i had to tweeze it off. It is still berried, but acting very weird. Is there anything I can do? Will the deformity now be a gene carried through to the bebehs? [link] [comments] |
