Posted: 29 Mar 2019 07:13 PM PDT I apologize in advance for any formatting issues I'm on mobile. 0kay so long story short, I impulsively bought a goldfish. He's a one eyed black moor (where his other eye is isn't scarred from what I can tell, I'm pretty sure he was like that from the beggining) and i have a huge weakness for animals who don't look like everyone thinks they should. Since I purchased him from some lame pet store the clerk didn't inform me about how you should set up a tank and cycle it first. So I bought a tank (10 gallons, with the intentions of upgrading ASAP) after setting up the tank I tested the water and while the ph and hardness weren't exactly in the best condition everything else looked good (I have extremely soft tap water, that I did treat with water conditioner). The filter that came with my tank is also missing the bio foam portion (which is why I believe I can't get the water quite right) Fast forward to about 5 days later. Moody has what I assume is Ich (I'd post a picture but he swims a lot and I cannot for the life of me get a non blurry picture) and I just got a test kit and my ammonia is way too high at about 4ppm mg/l. He isn't lethargic or overly erratic (he swims a but funny I'm assuming from being off balance) he seems to be just happily swimming around the tank. He is still eating and searching for food. So far I have been working on increasing the temp in the tank to combat the ich. I'm planning on getting a different filter tomorrow since I hate the one I have and it doesn't even have all the parts. My question is if I move him to a quarantine tank and just start from fresh let it cycle through and all, would he be able to withstand going from quarantine (with most likely not the best water quality) to the fresh and cycled tank. Or would it be too much stress. I really love this little guy and while I started off wrong I wanna do right by him. I want him to have the best life a goldfish in a tank can. Sorry it's such a long post. Thanks in advance for any help/advice y'all can give. TLDR: Bought a disfigured fish impulsively, didn't cycle tank, he has ich, and I wanna make his water safe as fast and safely as possible. Please help. [link] [comments]
Advice needed - First Severely sick fish - Need to know if it's too late. Posted: 29 Mar 2019 09:01 PM PDT TL;DR - Is he too far gone? should I euthanize. Hey everyone, as the title suggest I have a sick fish. (photo is a little rough - but it is what it is. ) Long story short, I've been treating him for about 2-3 weeks now. Went to my LFS, had water parameters checked, everything was clear. My own testing did the same He originally broke out with what looked like a bacterial infection. Redness, loss of scale, loss of color, lethargy etc. We had 2 fish come down with it, although the fish in the photo is by far worse. LFS gave us treatment, we had a treatment tank/quarantine tank at home and moved them in the day we noticed there was an issue (no further issues with other fish) about a week into the treatment everything started looking good, we removed one fish back into the main tank as he was cleaned up (after a 24 hour dip in water treated with melafix in another tank) but we wanted to leave this one in a little longer as we noticed his scales were still pretty rough. Over time he started to get the white furry bits coming out of him (I believe it may be fungal but this is all new to me) Ultimately.. given the photos I want to know if at this point, euthanizing is what would be best. I'm asking this now, full well expecting to be told I should have done so awhile ago and it's cruel i let it get this bad. but.. things started looking really good for him until the last 5 days which is when it really flared up. How to train my goldfish to eat worms? Posted: 29 Mar 2019 06:28 PM PDT First off, I live in the country, and gathered these worms after it rained from our timber so I know they're safe. I dropped one whole worm (about 2-3 inches long) for my 5-6 inch Shubunkin and my fish seemed terrified of it. So I decided for the next one, I would cut it up into "bite sized" pieces and drop them in one at a time. He ate one as it fell but hasn't eaten any that are on the bottom. As I'm typing this, I just saw one whole worm burry into my Eco-complete substrate. 🙄 So my first question, how do I train him to eat these wonderful worms? Second, how long should I leave the cut up worm chunks on the bottom? And lastly, what do I do about this worm that decided to borrow!? I have my tank mildly planted, but can normal worms survive underwater? Should I dig around and search for him so he doesn't cause an ammonia spike, or will it probably not cause much since it's a 75 gallon with bi-weekly water changes (25%)? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Mar 2019 01:29 PM PDT So I'm new to keeping fish and I have this little common goldfish who seems to be doing ok. When I got him I wasn't sure he was gonna make it as his living conditions were not great at the store. He didn't swim much and he sank when he wasn't actively swimming upward. After a few days in his new tank however he's no longer sinking and very active. He's also eating now. Unfortunately his poop is long and stringy. It's also sometimes white but seems to mostly match the color of the food he's fed. (Flakes and small pieces of peeled peas) Is this abnormal? Could it be due to his previous living conditions or is it something I am doing? Any help is much appreciated! [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Mar 2019 06:42 AM PDT Hi, everyone. First time goldfish owner here. I bought a common goldfish about a month ago and was provided with a very basic set up (filter, tank, dechlorinator, fish net etc.) I was keen to get a tank suitable for a single fish and was told the 18 litre was suitable for my new pet. Of course I believed the assistant, thinking he would know better than I. Obviously, I've fallen totally in love with goldfish keeping and I want to provide my goldfish with a great environment and at least one other buddy to chill with. As I am living on a strict budget and renting a house where I am not allowed pets, I can't really afford to upgrade to a massive tank as per the recommended sizes on your wiki. I could perhaps push to a 34 litre and manage to keep that hidden during house checks, however is that still too small? I love my goldfish and really don't want to have to rehome him, but I also don't want to have him upset in any manner. In your professional opinions, what should I do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Mar 2019 06:09 AM PDT I noticed small white dots on three of my fish in my tank-- after doing research I believe it might be ich. What is the best way to go about getting rid of it in the tank? [link] [comments]
Abnormal color patterns in comet goldfish? Posted: 29 Mar 2019 04:31 AM PDT Backstory: I adopted two goldfish from petco a little over month ago, I was pretty much instantly drawn to them because I've never seen this type of coloration in them before - dark orange and orange with black edgings on their fins - now after it's been a month the darker markings and Aurora's fins have turned completely black. What the hell is going on? I've literally never seen comet goldfish look like this before. They're kept at about 65°F and fed a mix of fresh produce and flake food with weekly water changes. They're actively scavenging around, not floating at the top and gasping, swimming, and are aware (actually started recognizing me this week) I looked for signs of fin rot and their fins are intact minus where Nocturna nipped at Aurora's fin apparently, pretty sure it was an accident during feeding time because I haven't seen any signs of aggression/chasing after monitoring them during feeding. Their fins aren't clamped to their bodies either. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u0ef4acf9gmwd40/AABTtGoa9Fjih5DJGS1ipodya?dl=0 [link] [comments] |
