Steel blue or blue bolts?

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 06:42 PM PST

My Taiwan bee starter pack from Flip aquatics arrived earlier today and after 4 1/2 hours drip acclimation they're all in the tank.

Red and black panda/kk mix are as expected but the blue bolts are not the typical blue/white and some have a much more metalic sheen almost appearing peach in the white sections. I'm thinking these might be steel blues (tangarine tiger x blue bolts). They are absolutely beautiful regardless and I'm just curious as all the names confuse me.

Where to get cheap Red Cherries?

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 05:10 PM PST

I've been wanting to buy some more shrimp for my tank but don't want to spend a bunch, didn't know if anyone had any suggestions on places to get them or if they were willing to sell. Not looking for high grade, just trying to get a good colony started, so about 20-30 shrimp. Thanks! :)

Ebb and flow shrimp tank as an extension from an aquaponic set up?

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 06:56 PM PST

I recently had an idea and I wanted to here other people's opinions about it. I have a very large aquaponic system in my basement it's been running for about a year and a half. The pH is stable at around 7 and the whole system grows crops like a champ. In the main 150 gallon container I have 4 gold fish providing fert and in the media bed tons of bacteria to help the whole cycle. I've experienced with a ebb n flow system for a small snail tank as an off shoot from the sump.

I want to somehow have a 10 gallon maybe a bit bigger planted aquarium with everything you need to start a shrimp colony but, once every few hours a pump from the sump tank takes water into the shrimp tank then the tank over flows through a drain hole back into the system. I think it would be a good way to provide an endless about of food for the shrimp and provide minerals for the plants. Thoughts?

Quick Question

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:29 PM PST

So my tank went through some issues and many of my cherries died... I am unfortunately down to 3-5 but one of my females are berried! Do I need to go out and buy more cherries for them to be happy or after my berried shrimps eggs hatch would there be enough for a small colony?
