The algae has subsided. The carpet is almost filled in. The cycle is complete. This thing is ready for some fish.

Monte carlo melting in specific spot.

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:37 PM PST

Hi guys. Another carpet plant melting post.

I recently started up my tank last Friday with Ada aquasoil, additibes and tons of carpet. I overbought too many TC Monte Carlo. Anyway yesterday I saw my MC melting in a specific spot as seen here. http://imgur.com/gallery/ao7hdOZ.

I have glossostigma planted elsewhere that are growing superbly so far and all my background plants are doing great. Monte Carlo elsewhere is doing good as well as seen in pictures. I dose fluorish comprehensive, fluorish potassium and iron, aquavitro synthesis and activate for extra npk that comprehensive lacks. This is also a high tech tank with co2 turned on 20 mins to an hour before lights and lights go on for 6 to 8 hours. I do daily water change of 30 to 40% and re add ferts carefully in smaller doses.

Initially I thought it's the lack of light due to being close to the driftwood. I cut those MC up as seen in the pictures and replanted some away from the driftwood. Today I checked after coming back and saw that MC close to the driftwood is melting again. What is the issue here? It's a new tank with new driftwood, I thought that maybe the biofilm is affecting the MC but is that possible? The melted MC today has hairy white biofilm attached to them. I will take some pictures later but this is the situation so far.

There was also a caveat of me planting TC MC in large clumps that I mostly eventually uprooted, divided into smaller stems and replanted.

Thanks.

DSM Day 14

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:21 AM PST

Hello! I recently started to get into aquarium plants. I was wondering how long should I leave the light on? Also, what kind of anubias is that? I just got the Rotala today, and I was wondering if it’s okay not to plant it too deep into the substrate?

What kind of substrate do you guys suggest?

I've been using CaribSea Eco Complete but I've been looking for something new. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What midground plants should I use?

What midground plants should I use?

New (~1.5 month) tank with ludwiga repens and a crinum calamistratum along the back wall. Crypt undulata with anubias tucked into the driftwood in the midground. Finally, I've just planted some monte carlo in the foreground which I hope will take over the whole front.

That may be enough; however, I wanted to ask my faithful community if they recommend anything else? Maybe something low along the front of the dragon stone? Maybe some jungle val in the back corners? Maybe a small java moss bonsai on top of the left dragon stone to get closer to the rule of thirds and golden ratio?

Stats: This is a 30g tall tech tank (CO2 ~24ppm / KH 8 / GH 15 / ph 7.0) along with the Beamswork 6500k on a timer for 11 hours/day, and a couple bags of Ecocomplete on the ground. PH sits around 7.8 w/out CO2. I also just started feeding NilocG on an EI cycle.

I'm up for whatever my tank's current state can support, assuming the plant is easy to find and I can keep highlighting the stone. Any thoughts? Thank you in the advance!

Brand new atomiser not working

Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:03 PM PST

I got a CO2Art bazooka diffuser/atomiser but can't get anything to come out of it at all. I've soaked it for hours and set my working pressure to 40psi but my bubble counter stops bubbling after a few minutes and I don't get anything at all out of the diffuser.

Any ideas? Is it possible that a brand new diffuser would be faulty?
