Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

These are some great resources for ID's of pests/algae.

Weird! Seems my corals prefer higher NO3. They look better when NO3 tested at 25 with Salifert.

I got offered this 6/7 y/o saltwater tank, I see a lot concerns with it, and I want to ask for some advice for whether it is salvageable. It would be much appreciated :) more info in the description.

Open brain coral bleaching. What can I do to save it?

Posted: 05 Jun 2022 11:33 AM PDT

I've had an open brain for about a year now with no issues. Recently, about 2 weeks ago, I noticed it starting to lose its color. It's still very fleshy, but I've noticed it has stopped taking in food.

Water chemistry is good, although my calcium may be low but I'm waiting on a new test kit. Nitrate is low (1-5ppm), phosphate about the same. Alkalinity is 9dKH, magnesium is around 1200ppm. I recently did a water change, 20 gallons on a 90 gallon tank. Everything is doing really well except the brain. I turned down my lights (LED Viparspectra) by a few notches and repositioned the coral. Tried feeding reef roid paste, but it didn't seem to accept it.

What can I do to save it?

Finally got a gold hammer, but on the transport home he lost a lot of polyps. Never had that happen before. Hope the guy makes it.

Had a tank about 2 years. Always had clear sand. Conch and Orange spot wrasse make sure of that. The back of the tank behind the rock work is suddenly brown each day. What can I do? Checked my params, nothing strange. New RO unit too.
